The tailshaft oil seal is leaking a bit and I'd like to replace it (1994 2WD manual tranny (W55 or 6?) ). The manual shows a special puller - is this absolutely necessary? I'd appreciate any advice, etc.

I pulled it out with a screw driver, it messed up the old one seal though.
