How do you get the starter motor back into it's housing?

1986, 22r
I took the starter out & unfortunately took the housing off the starter motor in the process.

Inside the housing, there are 4 'contact bars' that are extended & not allowing the motor to seat all the way into the housing. How can I get the motor all the way back into the housing?

Thanks.

those contact bars are called brushes and they're connected to springs with a wire inside the spring right? look at the slot where the brushes push into.there might be a hole for you to slide a tooth pick into to hold the brush compressed. then install the rotor and bolt everything back together. then pull the picks out and voila. if there is no holes for the picks your just going to have to mess with it to get them compressed.

Thanks for the reply.

I had to take the end cap of the housing off & was able to get the motor back between the brushes. At first, i didn't want to take that cap off because i didn't know if it held those springs in place, but that turned out to not be the case.
