Cedro Peak NM this Sunday Jan 4th?

I've never lead or even organized a trail run but I was thinking that some of us from around Albuquerque (or anywhere if you're in the mood) could meet up and do a couple hours of easy trail running. Pretty much a chance to meet and greet each other and see some sights.

This is the trail I have in mind since it's rated as easy and my little rig isn't yet built for Moab type hard core stuff.

I'm thinking that stock rigs will make it with a little help due to the snow and ice that's up there this time of year.

We could all meet up about 10 that morning somewhere that we can all find and then go out and find the trail. Again I need to stress that I've never run this trail nor have I ever lead/organized a run. This is just me thinking outside of my comfort zone.

My house phone is (505) 323-9262 if you want to call and discuss the run, ask for Ricky.

Hey Rickey,

Looks like it might snow/rain on Sunday, if it does I won't be riding the bike. I will give you a call in the morning if it's wet out.

Thanks
Robb

Robb,
I'll have the phone close at hand.

Jim,
It's the only place I know of so far. Hell I can't even find my way down to Rio Puerco since I have no idea how to get there.

Guys I'm up for anything, really. If it's too nasty to hit Cedro we could go somewhere else but one of you will have to lead me there.

Or if nothing else I'll take you guys out to lunch just so I can meet some other wheelers in Albuquerque, my treat.

Hey Ricky, I left you a message this morning. I would like to go drive around Cedro a bit.

Just so you guys know, my truck is pretty stock. My locker is still on the shelf in my garage and I don't have sliders or a winch. I all of that is ok with you then give me a call, I left my number on your machine.

Robb,
I tried to return the phone call a few minutes ago and got "the number you have dialed is no longer in service".

ceidro peak is a cool trail especially if there is snow. to get to the rio puerco just drive straight out rio rancho till you hit the dunes then drive up the dunes and down the other side. no worries there is only one way down. if you make a wrong turn you will just fall off the cliff

Well that was a blast!!!! Robb led the way since he's been out there more than I have and I've got to tell you I'm glad he did. It'd be easy to get lost out there when it's snowing.

I did find out that my rig needs some upgrades. I stopped at the bottom of a little hill climb to let Robb get over the top and when it was my turn to go up I just couldn't get there. When one tire broke loose the others did also. The Aussie made sure that both back tires were spinning like mad and the open front was doing the one-wheel-peel so I went nowhere. I backed back down to try another line and got stopped again, then again when I tried to go around the hill and up another way. Those darn treadwrights were packed full of snow that quickly became ice and all my traction went south.

Next upgrades for the truck are a set of BFG's in 33/10.50, which means I'll have to drop in a set of 4.88's to match.

Robb thanks a ton dude! It was a pleasure wheeling with you!

That was fun, not technical at all but slick from with snow. We went up Chamisoso.

From the top of Chamisoso we started uo the "five sisters" but thats where Ricky's tires found the limit of traction.

We turned around and headed over toward "Lone pine" for awhile and then back down Chamisoso.

The limit of traction, steeper and icier than it looks

Me at the bottom of the "sisters"

Near the start of "Lone pine" where we turned around

That is a really nice drive. How much snow is up there. Sorry we missed you!
Maybe you can show us around the Puerco sometime.

There's 18 - 24" of snow. The road was snowy, but not bad at all. The back road has been plowed since I was there a few weeks ago. It's packed with probably 6 - 8". I went down to the Man Cave, then came back up.
