Only 2 Years on a WaterPump?!?!

Is two years about the average lifespan of a waterpump on a 3VZ-E? Of course it just went out of the 2yr warranty and I don't know if the shop put a reman or oem waterpump in it. So - looks like I've got to replace it and I'm not going with a reman. I'd like to go with OEM (asin I think), but its about 90 bucks for one from the dealer. Whats the next best thing? Cardone Select? Beck/Arnley? And I might as well do the timing belt and t-stat too.

waterpump should last a lot longer than that. wonder if they used tap water instead of distilled?

Its not really a matter of tap or distilled, its a matter of the quality of water pump. Simply put, cheap parts yield cheap quality. If you put an aftermarket cheap reman pump in there, 2 years is about all you can expect out of it.

Go to www.toyotapartsales.com and order one from Phil (Strap22) GET AN OEM ONE. Saving $20 isn't worth the time you will be spending tearing it all apart.

Yeah you need to use OEM parts. When my factory alternator died at 172,000 miles (give or take a few) I tried to save 50$ and get an "off brand". It lasted less than 1000 miles so I returned it on the warrantee and paid the extra for an OEM replacement.

Toyota made this stuff to last, trust in that.

I suppose I should've first asked what failed in the waterpump before jumping to the distilled vs. tap water.

It is true that tap water has impurities in it and you shouldn't use it straight, but it's water and if you are using a good quality antifreeze I think you would be alright.

So it looks like I will be doing OEM. The bearing is starting go go out on it. I get that shrill squealing sound from the waterpump area. I've taken the belt of the alternator, p/s pump and a/c and it still makes the squeal. Sometimes it makes it all the time, sometimes its sparatic, but mostly after I've done a hard acceleration or when its cold in the morning. *Edit: I found an Asin pump. Is it worth getting the warranty (1yr for $10.64, 3yrs for $17.74 or Lifetime for $24.83) The pump itself is $80
