hay first timer here.....I drive a 89' 3.0 3VZE toy pickup 4x4 auto, and it will not start in the cold weather, it has spark, it turns over, and the fuel pump it pumping I've tried carb cleaner and either down the intake tube but no results were noticed. it sounds like it wants to fire ....but it just doesn't when it is warm or hot out it fires right up like a champ, problem....I live in the snow half the year! help me please I know my way around a car and tools so please dont hold back! thanx much

 

If your getting fuel and spark then air is the next problem. Anything froze up in the filter area?

 

You either have a problem with the cold start injector or the cold start timing switch.

When the motor is cold, pull the cold start injector out of the upper intake manifold/plenum, have someone crank the motor. You should see fuel squirt in a rather strong stream. If not, start looking at the timing switch first. They are common to go out.

The timing switch is located on the back of the motor/manifold near the firewall. You'll see large coolant bypass hose going to the middle of it. The timing switch is to the left of it as your facing the firewall. It has a large black connector. Take a long wire and connect one end to the battery ground. Take the remaining end and probe it into the ground side of the connector. Not sure which side that is offhand (can never remember that detail, for some reason), but there's only two terminals giving you two trys, eh. Then, try and crank the motor. If it doesn't start, try the other terminal. If it still doesn's start, time to look at the injector.

Try the switch. If nothing there, then I'll get some instruction on the injector for you.

thanx i will try these tips tomarrow,as soon as first light comes around but now its like -2 and windy! O ya and dark.....on the good side, I had to call out of work and was forced to snowboard fresh pow all day long haha couldnt have broke down at a better time 4' fresh snow! yah marry x-mass
