I'm not sure what route I need to go here: I have a 94 2wd that likes to spin one tire when going up boat ramps, sand, etc... It's a 22re, auto extra cab. Without going and buying a 4wd truck which I don't need, what's the best thing for me to do? Thanks for the help, It's such a good little truck and it does everything I need it too otherwise.

 

id just look for a limited slip... you dont really need a locker if your just towing a boat...

 

here's some good reading for you if you want to swap in a Supra LSD - I got my front LSD (4x4) for $30 from a "you pull it" type junkyard in about 1 hour from an '83 Celica Supra with the inline 6 cyl

the axle code on a 8" diff Supra will be Gxx5, on a 7.5" diff Celica Supra or early Supra the code will be Fxx3 (G=8" diff, F=7.5" diff the 3 or 5 indicate it is an LSD)

 

How does that limited slip work up front, does it actually make a difference?

 

It's better than an open diff, but it's benefit still goes away if I lift a tire off the ground (without some fancy footwork). I went with an LSD in the front when I was out in Cali because I knew I'd be moving back to PA and an LSD is supposedly much better in the snow (on road) than anything else (especially in the front) - the benefits in the snow have yet to be seen. Out in Cali it was fine in the desert and on dirt, no mud experience with it yet, either.

i have found applying the brake works real nice to lock mine up wheel in the air doesnt sem to effect mine as far as i can tell

 

Try putting your e-brake on It will put more force on the rear drums then the foot brake. Should trick the LSD into sending power to the other wheel.

 

definately let me know, there's a u-pull-it junkyard about an hour from me where I can pick up an LSD for <$50 . . . .

I thought I explained it

if the axle code in your truck says it has a 7.5" diff, you use a 7.5" LSD - if it says your truck has an 8" diff, you use an 8" LSD

all you have to do is swap out the differential itself (just the part that the ring gear bolts onto) and reuse the original ring gear -> The *official* 7.5" Supra LSD into a IFS diff thread

Thanks for the links, I looked at the code on the doorjamb and I have F302. This means I have a 3.73 ratio with a 7.5 rear end. I'll keep an eye out for the celica/supra diff.

 

Let me make this more clear--it is an 8" v-6 third member.

I like the link you posted and have actually already read everything on Zuk's site (good info there) - he was the one giving advice and instruction on the link I posted. I'll probably go with the rear LSD - just for the price, ease of install, and toyota reliability - I just need to wait for the weather to clear a bit for a u-pull-it junkyard run

 

also just found out that if you can find a '90 Supra (JZA70 chassis), it has a Torsen LSD in it instead of a clutch pack machanical type - axle code G299
