What rig?

No, you don't have to remove the third if you're talking about the outer bearnig on the axle.

You will need a BEEFY press with a long throat to press the old bearing off and the new bearing on.

I just replaced this a couple weeks back. Couldnt figure out a way to get the old bearing off so just broke out the torch. Used a 20ton press to get the new one on, just make sure you do it in the right order. I think we ended up using a large socket to help press the bearing in. It can be a PITA. Remember to replace the oil seal while you are in there!

nope, you should drain the oil first though so none spills out.

Or just put your oil drain pan under the backing plate so when you separate the axle from the housing it will drain neatly.

i suggest taking the axle shaft to a shop, should cost about 40 bucks. and do not use a torch on it.
