my new xrc8 winch/custom bumper...

hello, i just wanted to share my new x-mas gift that i got from my GF(the winch).. and my bumper i built to mount it. the winch is the new xrc8 with the 5.5 hp series wound motor it looks good havent got to use it yet, but that will change. i got the winch from 4wheel parts, it was here fast to my door with a lifetime warranty for $344 and some change. ok now the bumper, i got most of the design features off the net, and threw in a lil of my own ideas as well. I'm happy with how it came out, its not perfect but good enough for me. sorry in advance for not taking any pics of the build, i was to into the build to take pics(i know bad excuse).. I'm happy with how it came out looks wise. anyway I'm also going to use this thread to post testing results of the winch and bumper.

here are the pics, all comments good or bad are welcome.

Good work. You should consider adding some radiator protection in there. Should be easy enough to incorporate onto your bumper brackets.

Are there only the 4 large bolts (and those two small ones) holding the bumper onto the frame? That would be one thing that I would worry about during a hard pull. Because of your lift, there will be a lot of moment force applied down near those 4 bolts. Overall... it looks great.

i tested her out once, not a hard pull but i had my brakes locked up and it was pulling me across a gravel parking lot and it didn't bend or move! though it wasn't a hard pull. but to get to your question, yes there is only those 6 bolts holding it on. its pretty stout, i reinforced the frame with a home made one of these,

if i have any problems i will build a bracket to utilize my factory bumper mounts, that will almost double the strength. i was going to do it anyway but i figured what i have now will be stout enough. i will find out soon as i plan on using both to there full potential.

When I get some funds, hell ya, it's clean, and tight against the body. I don't like the aftermarket bumpers that stick out half a car length in the front

Sorry, I was so busy smart alecking before that I forgot to give you props on the bumper. It reminds me of the one I wanted from FROR but was out of production by the time I got around to ordering one. If you decide to tie it into the frame some more you can add some arms like this.

Or I have heard that All Pro does something similar that ties into the body mount bolt. Looking forward to your reports on the winch.

sure sounds good..

but if you are capable of a lil fabrication, and have the tools and means to build your own so you could save some cash. i would be happy to give you a detailed list of the material needed. and a assload of pics and misc info if you decide to go for it.. but i dont have a problem working a deal with ya, just somthin to think about.

To tell you the truth, I had most of the tools and such waaaay back in the day, but thanks to the EX......well, I'm sure you can guess what happened. Needless to say, starting over from scratch sucks.....
