rust question

I have heard some dudes say, that yota fixed the rust problem in vehicles starting in 90, others say in 93. Do we have a real idea on this?

The 90+ vehicles are much better than the older ones, but they'll still rot if exposed to salt, etc.

there are only two ways i know of to 'fix' rust problems, 1) is to oil spray/krown it yearly from new or 2) move somewhere that doesnt use salt on the roads.

depending on generation, slacker (member here) has alternate solutions. a bit more costly, but will 'fix' rust problems.

Well I own a 95 and they must have forgotten to fix mine. Taken care of now for the most part, pita to get rid of.

I've got a '94 and zero rust. But one thing I do is keep the undercarriage clean in the winter to rinse the road deicer crap off the best I can.

I got an 92 from that lived in WA and AL, was spotless. Then it spent two winters in CT and the trailer hitch is rotting off. Not taking the frame with it yet, but if I don't take the hitch off and sand it down and paint it up soon it will...
toyota never fixed the rust problem. Nobody can fix that problem because steel naturally oxidizes, and unless they goto extreme measures like stainless steel like a delorean, nothing can be done about it. That said, when toyota was developing the 89 p/u and 90 runner, they knew taht their earlier trucks were rotting beds and rear ends off, so for 89 they put a double wall bed on the truck and marketed it as the cure.
Obviously theres still alot of yotas out there that rust, but I think it's only so noticeable because yotas last so long. Any car driven for as long as a yota and neglected as much as a yota will eventually turn into a rust bucket, other cars just dont live long enough to see that day.
