Question Factory Steel Wheels?

Which 3rd gen 4Runners came with factory steel wheels?

I am looking at a '99 SR5 that has some that the owner says are the factory wheels that came on it.

I think they're 15's.

Were there any other differences that I should know about? Maybe the brakes are different to the 4Runners that didn't come with steelies...?

Thanks!

I think all the 3rd gens came with alloy wheels....they were just different sizes, 15's and 16's. The brakes were equivalent to the wheel size as well.

So there were no factory steel wheels on 3rd Gen's?

And 3rd Gen's with factory 16's had bigger brakes, then?

You'll see these on base '01-'04 Tacoma's (IIRC) and very rarely on 3rd gen Runners.

They will fit a 3rd gen though.

^^^^^^those are what i was talking about. I've only seen them on (stock) 4 banger tacos and (stock) 2wd 4runners. But i'm sure the dealership put them on all of them if you didnt want to pay for the alloys.

Those are the same wheels I have on my 2002 4Runner 4x4. They are indeed stock steelies...

Those are definitely stock steelies. fyi not all the 3rd gens that got 16" alloys also got the bigger brakes. Most of them did but not all. That's why there's a few of us out there that can rock 15" wheels. 15's aren't all bad. You can get cheaper tires and usually aftermarket wheels.
