or fuel shut off switch that controls fuel pump at gas tank on a 94 22RE? Yanking hair out by the clumps!

 

There is no such thing on a Toyota. They are controlled by the airflow meter. and the circuit open relay

They built it into the airflow meter so basically if the engine isn't running, fuel isn't flowing, and it doesn't have to rely on a resettable switch.

 

OK well then maybe you can help? Remember when I crossed the wires on my battery? Finally got the truck running with y'alls help, but it won't stay running. If it sits for a long time, it will start and run but once it heats up it won't restart and then it has to sit for a few days before it will start again. Someone had told me that there was a switch on the fuel pump that is triggered if you have a wreck. He said it would stop the pump. He thought MAYBE when I did the electrical screw up I might have popped that switch?

How do I bypass the relay so that I can check my fuel pump to make sure it's working? I have checked the circuit relay no problems. Where is the airflow meter? Where is the fuel filter on this danged truck?

Any other suggestions what might be happening here?

 

If it starts, your fuel pump is working.

Like i said, there is NO fuel pump inertia switch. Fords use that.

Many other possible problems, time to get an FSM and start checking the basics.

thanks 4crawler! I actually found your site about 10 minutes ago from another thread on here. They are testing it now.

Here's another question though - the circuit opening relay - black box with white plastic guard, 5 pins? Is that the right one? Because when I called advanced auto parts, and gave them the part number off of this relay, they told me it was the air conditioning relay. Interesting, since my toyota doesn't have an air conditioner LOL.

It is a relay with two separate coils and one set of output contacts.

OK your jumper wire test worked - it started and it keeps running. Going to keep following your cheap tricks - thanks!

 

If the fuel pump is indeed shutting off, i would be looking at the Airflow meter, or the Circuit open relay.

 

time to take a mulitmeter to the airflow meter and check to see if shes working the way it should

 

Looking for electrical help on a 91 toyota. Is there anyone that can help? Change out motor that I drove into shop. Took an 86 22r and changed intake manifold put back in and have no power going to the fuel pump. Changed relay and computer check wiring no damage. Any help out there????

i always thought ford was the only one with an inertia switch too.

is it possible a short would pop it though? i thought only "inertia" did that.

and if the truck runs, wouldnt that rule the inertia switch out?
