tell me about the 3.0

i am looking at a 95 4runner, auto, 3.0. 111,000 miles. price seems to be more than fair. currently i have a 93 pickup 22re, so i really dont know anything about the 3.0 other than i have heard it called the 3.slow. its got new tune up, water pump and timing belt. is there a head gasket issue with this motor i should be investigating? are the 4runners comfy on the highway? my trucks a little bouncy, but cant beat the gas mileage.

3.0 is a solid motor other than the headgasket issue. Try to find out if it has been done just in general. it is a dog and mpgs arent the greatest. Depending on what you are going to need it for I would highly recommend a 3rd gen 4runner

the 3.0 isnt all that bad of a motor, but if you're looking for a big power gain over the 22RE, look elsewhere

be sure to check about the headgaskets

You read my mind Trying to find a wrecked sc400 aint that easy apperantly...around here at least.

Back to the OP:

Well if its taken care of, proper routine work done, it will serve you well. The 3.0 is not THAT slow, 22re's are slower... don't know how people get away calling it the 3.slow.... in anycase, unfortunatly you have two things that will reduce performance pretty considerably.

1. you have the automatic, some report some 20hp loss due to the automatic...
2. You have a heavy 4runner. Nothing to fix here....

My recomendations... get it running right, then save a little green up and re-gear your differentials to 5.29's (if you're gonna stay with 31" tires). This will allow the engine to easily transfer power to the ground, plus the automatics TALL OD gear will now be usable on the hwy.

.....I hate you..... Last one I came across guy wanted over a grand for the engine... I might have to sorce that down in the us...

Heh, with the mods I have done to my 3.0 im pretty happy with its performance. Its no race car, but it'l get up and go pretty good. The loose suspension makes it feel more powerfull then it is

you wanna know about the 3.oL well its got 3 litters of displacement and its a gasoline type internal combustion motor

that being said check the head gasket at the stealership make sure you can still do it as for the pricve what are we looking at? any pictures of this bad boy?

i can get a super clean 91 pickup with 180k 3.0 5-speed no rust two sets of tyres and yet the guy wants only 4,500 for it! all work has been done to the truck at the stealership

that was just said to let you what a few of them are going as!
