Hey all, I just put a new radiator in my truck and while I was at it I pulled my a/c compressor and lines since it doesn't work anyway. The negative cable was grounded to the a/c compressor. Since I took the compressor off, I tried grounding to the frame rail with no luck. Is it necessary to ground to the block? Thanks in advance for the help!

 

well the spark plugs need to ground to something right?

 

Yes the main battery ground should go to the block. There are other ground wires that go from the block to the frame, but they are generally smaller gauge wires and will not handle the heavy current draw of the the starter motor.

yeah i have a big steel cable thats bolted to the right side fender area and right to the ground then one from the ground right to the head itself

you can see it on the front of the head to a 4g wire!

 

before anyone asks the duct tape is there cause me and my friends though it was a good idea to put a 150 shot of nos on my truck yeah i know but man was it fun

 

x2 i added 3 new 4ga ground wires ones to the engine block one to the frame and one to the body

 

MOre grounding the better.

 

Well, I have a ground going from the battery to the fender and one from the battery to the block. I turn the key and the starter solenoid will click. Leaves me sitting here scratching my head. The only things I changed was not grounding to the a/c compressor. Anyone have any advice?

 

Sounds like your batt may be low/you may have an issue with the starter. Also check the 12 gauge wire that runs off the +side of the battery to the main power of the truck first. Sometimes a broken wire there will give you the same problem. Give your starter a few raps with a hammer or something on the back side of it and see if that helps too. if it does, you have a bad starter.

 

I don't know if it's the starter, I just replaced it about two weeks ago ( reman, yea I know) but I will give it a few whacks anyway and see what happens.

Hey all, still can't get the truck to start. Are there any "odd" sensors or anything that could have happened when I took the A/C and all related accessories off that could cause the truck to not turn over? I can't for the life of me figure out what's up with the truck. I tried to catch the truck in gear and it would turn but not fire up. Battery is good on it as well. My new grounding point is where the old one was on the a/c compressor bracket, except now minus the bracket and just straight to the block. Please help!

 

did you unplug the wires to the starter or even bump them they get alot of erosion(thats what the puter said after i failed at trying to spell cerosion lol) on them fast take them off ans clean them all up and try it again!

 

hey 22re, I didn't take them off but I will look into it as well. This truck has 212,000 miles and had a starter put on around 190,00 and I just put one on two weeks ago. It was a reman and maybe it went bad already. When we went to catch it in gear it sounds like it was trying though. Anyone else have any thing? Thanks!
