headlights for 87 4Runner, OEM or aftermarket?

So this past weekend I pulled into my garage spot and wasn't paying attention, and bumped my table saw at the end of the garage. It perfectly lined up enough to puncture both of my headlights. Yeah, yeah, I know.

So having never replaced these headlights before, what do you guys recommend, OEM or are there better aftermarket lights?

I was a little confused after reading that. I know he had to replace his wiring harness, but was it neccessary? I'm looking to replace the lamp itself; just unbolt the old and bolt the new ones back in. I'm guessing Hella makes OEM style replacements.

You can replace just the headlight assemblies as written up on that section of the web page. Also on that page is upgrading the factory wiring harness in case you find you are getting significant voltage drops in the old wiring. You can do one or the other or both.

And yes, Hella makes a replacement housing which will just mount into the stock location and accept a replaceable H4 bulb of our choice. There are other light options out there, but I find the Hellas are a decent light and they are DOT spec, so no worries about having non-DOT lights.

if you can find them, Pilot makes some cheaper housings, but with good bulbs add's up to about 100 bucks

Thought about getting the Hella H4's, then called the dealer and got brand new OEM's for $28 for BOTH. Hella's would be nice, but come on, I saved like $72. That's 2 bottles of JB and at least a couple cases of beer.

Those would be nice, but when I have SO many other things to fix first, it was really hard to justify spending that kind of scratch on headlights. Maybe someday.

The way I look at it I was upgrading the headlights and eliminating the need to add a bunch of dumb auxillary lights on the front by having brighter headlights... 2 good things

Try telling that to my wife. I pointed out a perfect 69' Camaro SS the other day (Hugger orange, white rally stripes) and she said it was the ugliest car she had ever seen. I can only imagine why she puts up with my addiction to old beater Toys. Must be love.

Silver stars, bad ass lights. I wanna get a set of ebay lamps for mine. If anyone would like to buy a set of ebay lamps and trade me for a set of almost new silver stars these are very expensive but worth it headlamps. You can pay shipping.

I bought the h4 conversion from autozone for around $80 and some change for my last 91 rig, and going to do the same for my 4runner. Same year, and I think they might have Pilot's.I almost wanna say they were Hella's, but I don't think they were. Diffentely worth the price.
