'90 4runner only worked in 4wd low?!!?

So I went camping the other weekend and in the morning tried put the truck (v6) into drive and it went nowhere. It was like it was in neutral!! I tried reverse and that did not work eaither. So I tried 4 HI and nothing worked as well. When I tried 4 LO everything seemed to work, forward and reverse. After messing around with it for awhile it i got it into 2 HI again. Any ideas what was going on??? I used the truck the other day and had no problems with it!!

Thanks,
Steve

The auto tranny/tcase has a linkage system. Sounds like it needs to be adjusted.
