well like many people these days, gas milage is an issue with trucks and suv's.

i get around 18-20mpg in my 94 yota pickup. ive got the 3.0v6 and i love everything about my truck except the milage. the sensible thing to do would be to sell it and get something better for my wallet or shut up and not complain about the milage because thats what you get with owning a truck.
the truck works for me because i have the ability to move all of my stuff from one place to another, because im a nomadic student, take off for a weekend to the cottage with my bike, a canoe, and all my other cottage stuff, then do some light offroading with my friends.

has anyone put a lower gear ratio in their truck for highway driving? 4.10 gears are pretty brutal when highway driving is 85% of where i go. what other gears came with yota 4x4's. give me the run down on gearing

 

If your truck came with 31" tires, you will be equipped with 4.56 gears. If you went down to say 4.10's your mpg's would go down. Our trucks are not very powerfull so they need the proper gearing to maximize power/fuel economy.

Stay with 4.56 gears. You could also step down to say a 30x9.5" tire, that would yeild better milage. The skinnier the tire, the better the mpg will be (to an extent)

Keep the tire pressure high, Air cleaner clean, plugs and wires fresh, isr mod, headers, these will all help milage and will improve the overall performance of your truck, not make it sluggish like taller gears.

 

hmmm point me in the direction of this isr mod you speak of. is this the mod i was reading about taking the piece off of the camry with the bigger inlet?

Intake silencer removal

you pretty much just remove the stock intake from the throttle body to the airbox, and make your own pipe, removing all the silencer crap.
