Nice truck! I was gonna say to bad you didn't get the 22RE but if your doing a propane conversion it doesn't really matter. Love the bobbed bed too!

You did a great job on the welding job/body work!!! What don't you like about the welder? I was thinkin of getting one from Harbor Freight...do you use it with the gas or without?

no gas it would just get to hot i think it might have need the wire was really thin too. you can buy that valve thats just like 60 bucks but then you have to get a tank to. so another what 20 maybe more

im in the military and on base at our hobby shop they have a a millermactic 251 w gas that i ended up using

So here are some pics of my rear brace i did for the Toy
with a weld in reciver hitch

So compliments welcome but be nice to my welds :flipoff:

Let me know what you welders think of these welds
i am not a pro at welding by no means i probly have about 6-7 hrs of welding under the belt and that was in high school to now...... but i like to work on my own junk and learn as some of you know.
so i used my harbor freight 110 i just went to tach it on tonight and then drive to the hobby shop on base and weld it with the millermatic they have
but when i went to tach it the second time i saw both peices of metal get hot and i got a really good puddle so i started to move i feel like i got really good penetration....in the metal that is

so let me know what you think..
the cross brace is 3/16 and so is the toyota frame as some of you know
and for the hitch i maped it out with a sharpie the i used the drill press to drill out each corner then the grinder to cut out the box

so now time for feedback thanks guys
oh yea in a couple pics this is what the brace looked like after i welded it on the insidewhat you think of that too?

before

inside.

finished

so i have to test fit the bed on again then i can set the length of the hitch then weld it in ...

so metal 3/16 and weld in hitch 1/4 should i try to use the harbor freight welder?
as some of you can see the truck has some surface rust that comes of easy with a grinder so im going to gring it and paint it flat high temp black i know hrs of grinding ahead....
Oh yeah and i have to weld in another rectangle tube above the axle for my shocks
but i will have to remove the LSPV
im thinking of bending the lines down (with a bender my buddy has not by hand)
just for now t
hen get a manual proportioning valve
and put in a line lock for the e brake so i dont pull a Aaron...(white runner down the hill lol)
Oh but the real reason is so i could pull a real Aaron and do a FRONT DIG!!!

Not bad! I like the position and the idea. But isn't your hitch going to be right behind your license plate?? and behind the roll pan as well?
BTW Nice job on bobbing the bed! It looks really good!

If you don't mind me asking, what u-bolt flip kit did you use? I desperately need to do that to mine!

From: WA. The Blue Mountains are my playground.
Looks good I always think about trading or selling my 4runner for a truck and bob it like that. Can't wait to see the finished product.

You can bob a runner too! I've seen a few pretty cool ones on there! The 1st gens are easier to bob. But yours can be done too! you just have to decide what you want to do and stick to the plan!

Cool! Thanks!!

And you make a Good point about it never "being done" lol
I'm hoping to get mine to a point where I consider it done. Or at least done enough that I can start building a buggy or truggy or something

Keep up the great work!

Your hitch looks pretty trick! Are the rear gussets on the receiver also for attaching the safety chains?

Right now I'm wishing I had that limited slip. lol I'm thinking about Lincoln locking my rear for the up coming Marlin Crawler Round Up in Sept.

No the rear gussets are not for chains i bout a pack of 25 gussets and i had them so i threw em' on i might be adding some type of brackets for chains in the futer but i doubt this will ever see towing

Im linchon locked in the rear i have used the same third in my
85 PU
87 4runner
and now in my 85 PU
its great jsut make a few passes with the weld so its stronger

Yeah im not sure if i want this ez locker in the front or rear
if im linchonn locked up front turning will suck when locked....

Being Lincoln Locked in the Front would pretty much mean you have to get out and unlock one hub to turn. But you'd still be 3 wheel drive at that point. lol

I know what you wanna do. You wanna stay lincoln locked in the rear and deliver that ez locker to me in Sac. . . lol jk

So your pretty happy with the Lincoln Lock than? When you welded yours, did you also put a couple extra plates across the spiders for added strength? My buddy is suggesting we do that. Says they do it in their Demolition derby cars and have had no issues.

Thanks! Sorry to hi-jack your thread.

When you welded your diff, do you remember what kind of welding rod you used? Or did you use a wire feed? If so, what kind of wire and was it a mig (shielding gas process) or flux core? Do you remember?

Thanks,
Grant

I know I'm full of questions! lol

Yeah i used a miller matic 251 with .035 wire with gas set at 25psi
i would not use flux if you dont have to plus why chance it flux is really so diffrent when you weld with a good welder you will see
