Really interesting sound from air intake...

Earlier today, when I was sitting in park, I heard a sound like someone slurping the very last bit of soda through a straw coming from the front driver's side in the engine bay...Any ideas to what it could be?

I know that the power steering gearbox has been leaking like a sieve and is ready to be replaced, but I don't think that's it. It sounded like it was coming from the air intake equipment in that front corner.

Have any tears in the "accordion" flexy part of the intake tube? Maybe you got a small tear somewhere in there and it's vibrating and makin noise, kinda like when you let the air come out of a balloon with your fingers kinda holding the ends somewhat together?

IDK...It sounds like a liquid type of sound.

It was probably a sound from the A/C, which I almost never run.

it actually sounds like it could be coming from the coolant reservoir in my truck.

Ohh...That's a good idea...I just changed the radiator, I might have a little leak somewhere...

air in the cooling system - park it nose up on a steep hill, take the radiator cap off and the bubbles should purge out

was your truck running, if not how long before it happened was it shut off. Could the coolant system be trying to suck non-existent or low coolant back from the overflow bottle?

Put it on a kill, took off the cap, left it for a while, still makes the noise.

have you done the ISR mod?

the reason I ask is because on the 22re's, there's a pipe that runs from the filter box to some canister bolted to the intake manifold (the correct name and fuction of it slips my mind right now ), but after installing my custom intake, I hear the same thing; I think... sounds like just a girgling or bubling from under the hood. The sound comes from that tube when it's shortened or done away with all together, or just made to breath better. This is normal from what I'm told; just means it's working properly. It won't be noticable unless the intake is tampered with though; maybe after installing a K&N filter as well...

but I'm not sure if Toyota put the same thing on the 3.0...

I have the same sound on my new to me 95 Runner, at first I thought it might be the alternator, but after putting my ear down right over the drivers side headlight where the air intake is, it sounds almost like a rustling/sucking noise. I will check hoses for vaccum leaks and such this weekend. I took out the air filter, vaccumed out any debris from the container unit, reassembled but still no fix. It doesnt do it all the time but quite a bit as far as I can tell. Ive only had the runner for a few days so i havent had a whole lot of time to look into it yet. Truck idles/runs great.

Another issue im having and a few other ppl have had is that i can also hear what sounds like coolant swooshing in the middle of the dash while its parked and u give it some throttle. No leaks and the rad/resevoir are topped up. I hear a few other ppl have the same issue. Im getting good heat and the truck doesnt seem to get hot.

Its the PAIR valve its using the air from your intake to pulse air in the exhaust lol its fine if you downshift early and leave it in gear till you get to idle itll make that noise then too.

my 3.0 does this too. sounds like its got indigestion. seems to correspond to revving it up at a stop, and goes back to idle, but once i've been driving a while I don't usually hear it

+2 on the PAIR system.
You can double check by disconnecting the smaller pipe that crosses over the radiator / fan and plugging it then checking if the noise persists. If it goes away, that's the culprit, but now you have to figure out why it's operating at idle.

I've been hearing the same sound. It turned out to be missing screws that hold the PAIR plastic plate. The plastic plate was just rattling when the engine is still cold. I found some screws that fit and the noise went away.
It's a pain to get to it though. You can try com up from the wheel well if you have BL or through the top if you remove the bracket for the front brake hose. it's under the cold injector area.
I'm thinking of using lock tight on it because all 4 screws fell off somehow.
