Custom Rear panels, 87 4Runner

Custom Rear panels, 87 4Runner
Did a little work on the rear interior the other weekend before heading to Maine, made custom panels
They are one peice from the door jamb to rear gate on both sides.
Fairly simple construction, I used hardboard (think clipboard material) and fabric/backing. these are prototypes right now, probably be replaced with something sturdier, either MDF or marine plywood.
The goal was to have a close to stock look, one peice, with speakers and reuse factor compartments for rear seats.
I think they turned out decent for a 3 hour job, and under 40 bucks.

Backing and fabric:

If you have any questions, PM me, and I can help walk ya thru making some.

Before I sold off my rust runner I had the same idea, diamond plate came to mind. Buy in bulk of like a 4x8 sheet and you have enough to do every interior panel.
I was gonna do the doors, the rear cab, etc. Only issue is in hot weather owie.. Course plain sheetmetal could work too, or you could cover it in vinyl or plastic paint or soemthing. I liek the metal idea.

Yeah its a nice shop, not mine though... its my neighbors wood shop/garage. As long as I clean up and bring him some beer, I can use it almost whenever.
We've done alot of work in there, from pulling and swaping motors in hondas/mitsuz's/volvo's/of course yotas. and maintaince stuff.
Thanks man. Took a lot of logicistics to get the panels to lay/trace right, but a little patience paid off. The board was $7 at lowes, and the fabric and backing was about $24, add in some misc hardware (self tapping screws and washers) its still under 40$. The speakers are bestbuy specials... insignia's, that I got for free.
The doors and rear gate are next on the list probably the same materials... I have a few ideas for the top a brewing....
but next mod on the list is shocks... i snaped one this week in maine
