You can do a 1" body lift on the 2WD automatics:

Plus ball joint spacers up front for 1.5"-2" of lift:

And new springs, an add-a-leaf or longer spring shackle in back:

To each their own. Maybe he's planning on getting a locker and doing some mild off roading and wants extra clearance for some bigger tires.

Hit up http://4wheelparts.com for the body lift. The site says they offer a 2" and a 3" kit. Whether or not it will work with your automatic will depend on whether it's floor or column shift.
For the front lift, total chaos has a long travel kit for them that can net around 4" lift. http://www.chaosfab.com/92200.html
Downey offers a kit as well- about 2-3" lift: http://www.downeyoff-road.com/Suspen...s/1979-95.html
You have more options for the rear though including leaf springs and shackles as well as mounting the spring over the axle.

I'd do:

BJ Spacers
AAL's
Bilstein Shocks
1" Body Lift
31" BFG A/T's

You'll have something you can catch some air with, hit some pretty gnar mud roads, and DD.. I kinda wish I had a 2WD to do that with..

This used to be a 2wd, so the "highest lift" might need to get a little better defined.

just take out your upper bump stops completely, then crank your t bars and Bj space till you are almost maxed out. then put in some LC coils in the rear. hahaha

didn't the 2wds have struts, not shocks?

if so, no t bars.

Nope, torsion bars and shocks just like the 4WDs use:

Thought I'd add that the 2wd's torsion bars are on the bottom arms though, not the top arm like the 4wd's.

4x4's don't all suck fuel
last time I checked my mileage, it was a 322 mile drive in my 4runner and used 15.7 gallons to fill up (without topping) and this was up and over I-5/Grapevine and several downshifts to 3rd. that's about 20 mpg average.

Yeah, some aren't that bad. I get 26+ highway though

And, my bro gets 18-20 on I-5 doing 55mph

The main thing I hate is people who buy 4wds. Like my neighbor, but NEVER use it. It's like being ugly and buying condoms. No matter how much you think you will need to use it in the end you'll probably never need it.

I would have to say the long travel kit up front as suggested, custom make a 4 link setup for the rear end, and go prerunner with that thang!
