22re electric fan

I have an engine I am getting ready to put in and want to get an electric fan to install at the same time. What should I know about picking a fan to use?

"Electric Fan, Single, 16 in. Diameter, Reversible, 2,010 cfm, Black, Plastic,"

Does this look like a good deal? What should the max cfm be? Size? Any info would help.

I used to run a Flex-a-lite #165 and it was adequate, 2200 CFM:

You can get a Taurus/Sable 3.8 2 speed fan at the boneyard for like $15! And there are guys with bigblock Chevy's that use them to cool those engines. I have one on both my 3.0 on the high speed setting (soon to be 2.4 2RZ-FE) and my 22RE(low speed setting) as well. No cooling problems on either.

Not as good as the stock fan, but it was OK. Just had to watch things like slow wheeling on hot weather with the A/C on (that would cause it to start to overheat). I now run a stock fan and clutch and it works fine.

I felt my 22re was overheating so I switched to the 16" JC Whitney fan. It did not cool as good as the fan and clutch. I bought a factory clutch for $80.

When you guys say you have overheating problems on a hot day, how hot are we talking? I'm planning on putting in an electric fan soon myself.

On 100deg F it got hot. For instance after driving 20 mins then shut off for 5 mins then restart the temp gauge read 3/4. But I also had high temps when driving at 65 MPH for a distance. Mostly cleared up now.

The best use of an electric fan would be in front of the radiator pulling air in while still using stock fan. Make sure your fan shroud is in place too.

I was planning on just going the electric fan and removing the stocky so I can switch it off for deep puddle crossings. As it is now my fan is flicking muddy water everywhere in the engine bay and I'm probably risking a bend in the fan and a damaged radiator.

It can get to up to about 113deg F here in summer but its not often that hot.

You might try using an external radiator to assist in cooling. I think JC Whitney had one.

This fan will be the best for you. Trust me. Like he said about the BB chevys. We run one on my dads pro streeted 66 chevelle 496BB and it stays at what he wants for temp. around 160-180.

A single fan will cool better then two smaller fans and you can get a temp control set up for like $100 from summit flew-a-lite and its ajustable from 160-220 for start temp and shut of temp. or you can get a univerdal kit from like o'reilly's thats turns on at 180 and shuts off at 160 for like $35 but it may never shut off at thows temps.

The zirgo 16 inch fits PERFECT in a stock radiator... top of the fan is against the upper tank of the radiator and the lower is right up against the lower tank(just gotta make sure each end has a flat spot on the shroud that goes around the fan). they also make a 3300 or so CFM in that size for i think like 60 bucks. im sure the no name fans on ebay would work but zirgo has a liftetime warranty. this way all you have to do is use those ties to hold it against the radiator and youll have all the cooling you can ever want.
