Funny, last year I asked this exact same question, except in reverse.
What I'd like now is an extended cab pickup on a regular cab frame, plus a bed that's bobbed both at the front and rear. Maybe a stepside box so that it's doved as well.
To answer your question:
If you had an 85 frame, it would make sense that any 85-89 4Runner body should fit. Might have to fab up or move some mounts around...
Dunno about your 84.

bro, ive seen it done without swapping bodies. take your seats out, bust out ur sawzall, cut out the back 'wall', but leave the sides and the roof. put a camper shell on. seal the crack between the cab and the bed with bondo, smooth it out. paint over it. put seats in the back. slap a 4runner logo on there. your set.

Now, if you could make a trekker, with a full fiberglass rear tub and cap it would work b/c it has the lower cut outs for the feet and the seat sits low enough for you not to have your head tilted the whole time. Now if you could figure out a way to move essential parts and move the floor 6-8" lower then it may work..
Basically do what Slacker who builds the new trekker does.

Jan/Feb issue of 4wd Toyota Owner has a story on a guy that did this. Turned his 88 Xtra cab pickup into a 4Runner. Great story, lots of pics, shows you all the trouble spots and what he did to make it all come together.

X2, the guy did an awesome job. but retaining the xtra cab windows made it a little funky...
