My boy's '85

Hello,
My son just got a new toy. It's an '85 with a Skyjacker lift, 35 inch tires and 5:71 gears. It's a 5 speed with the fuel injected 4 cyl. He's pretty excited about it. I think he got a pretty good deal on it, $3,750. I haven't got to see it in person yet because I’m stationed in Korea right now, but will get to see it in a couple months when I get home.

Just thought I'd share.

Looks like there's a lot of useful info here.

Can someone give me some info about the trim that goes over the doors and rear cap sliding windows? I looks like it's just a stick on kind of trim or drip rail. He has it missing from both sliding windows and the passengers side.

Nice 85. Looks just like mine on the interior. x2 on the front "winch holder". Buy him an ARB for Christmas!

That is a nice older rig.
I agree on the winch/bumper thing.

A tube style bumper would look killer on there.
A local shop by me makes some pretty good ones, and there are vendors on here that make them as well.

It does look kind of strange. I told him if it were me, I'd lose the winch altogether, but he wants it. He said it works good, but needs the cable replaced due to being frayed in places. If he wants some other kind of bumper, that will be up to him to get.

Member Mytruck has an '84 Toyota truck with one of Badland's fron tube bumpers, but his has the tubes coming up on it, but it too looks killer.

I have better closeups somewhere...

Great looking truck but that front bumper is terrible. Keep the winch for sure, just get a new bumper!

NICE 85!! lucky kid there to get off to such a good start. I hope he doesn't forget that with that lift, it can't take high speed turns.

Here's my 85, bone-stock, Many Mods needed....

I just installed a marlin crawler tube bumper on my 87, and I love it. I was looking for a TJM, but the distributor said TJMs for the IFS first-gens were extinct,
and for the SFA 4Runners there are 4 left on the shelf. Those plate bumpers cost 3X what a tube bumper does...

Not all SR5s got the altimeter, mine didn't.

I guess I'm the only one that likes the quasimoto winch mount, its ugly and unique. except it doesn't do a thing to protect the front corners. I'm surprised the OE front bumper is still straight!

Get an Amsteel or other synthetic winch line and hawse fairlead. They are the way to go these days.

Apologies for the thread hijack. Are you saying that your 85 4Runner is an SR5 and did not come with an altimeter? I have a hard time believing that. Are you sure it's an SR5?

I think he got a pretty decent buy on that thing.
How many miles on the beast?
that winch mount is one of the, hmmmm, more interesting approaches that I have seen.
He has got a perfect place to mount a CB above the radio...

about the trim pieces for the rear windows, check the classified section: https://www.yotatech.com/forums/f91/
people are parting out trucks all the time
