Rear Driveshaft Bearing or Bushing Gone bad?

I'm basically crossing this over from a thread over on UY since I know there's some more traffic on this site and I need all of the opinions I can get...

Here's the link...

I need to get this figured out before I drive over 1200 miles next week, so any help is appreciated

Not sure why you haven't pulled the case and taken a look. It takes all of an hour to pull it, and dissassembly takes even less time. You could have that thing on the bench, and check the rear bearing on a weekend day, order anything you need new, and have it back in a few days later.

From the description, it sounds like the transfercase pretty bad.

Just read your thread and it sounds, by what you've described, that there may be excessive play in the output shaft of the x-fer case. I could understand a tad bit (maybe 0 +/- 1 mm) of axial play (front to back). You should not be able to 'see' any vertical or horizontal play in it.

I would be doing a lot more myself on this, but I'm in the middle of ending a semester and doing finals right now so time is VERY limited.

Is the play found in the driveshaft typical? I thought there shouldn't have been any at all...

By the way, this play is the REAR driveshaft....I haven't looked too much at the front as I have manual hubs, so nothing up front should be even moving.

I had the same problem a couple years ago....pulled the driveshaft and hit the nut with an impact wrench...no more problems.
