brake light 90 4runner

Hey guys i was woundering why my brake light on my dash stays on. You can't see it during the day but when it starts to get dark you can see it and it is not that bright like when you have the e-brake on. I know my front pads are needing to be replaced, is there a brake sensor on or what?

Check your brake fluid level. If it's fine and the light's still on, pull that plastic filter thingy out of the fluid reservoir and see if it goes away. There's a level sensor on a float in there, and for some reason mine was sticking or something I can only assume in my 91 PU and doing the same thing; the lights always on, but you can clearly see it get brighter when you pull the parking brake. I removed that filter, and all is better now!

I'd venture to guess that your 'e-brake' switch isn't opening fully when you release the e-brake resulting in some minimal current flow through the switch and causing the light to faintly illuminate.... Either that or the 'low brake fluid' switch in the master cylinder cover isn't working properly.
Other than those possible problems it's got to be either a problem with the circuitry behind your dashboard gauge panels causing some voltage to leak across the traces or a semi-shorted wiring problem in one of the brake switch/light/fluid circuits.
