hey elvis,

i have a 2000 4runner radio/tape/cd player ( which i consider to be double din ) in my 88 4runner.

btw, it was plug-n-play.

the width of the unit with the mounting hardware was just a smidge wider than the opening but by pushing the sides out i was able to squeeze it in.

you may want to check the depth of the head unit against the stock 2000 unit as it is very tight.

in fact, of the 4 bolts/screws that secure the head unit i could only use the 2 lower ones.

the stock 2000 4runner headunit fit nicely behind the trim piece, too.

good luck!!!

Yes double DIN will fit.
Use factory toyota brackets to bolt it in.
