Wait, do you mean effective gear ratio?

No, with 31's you either have 4.56 for manual tranny or 4.88 for automatic (assuming you have FACTORY 31's, not dealer installed 31's)

no im curious what the factory trucks came with in their 3rds if they had 31s... tc, thats what i was looking for, but i thought there were some that had 4.10s with 31s, but never thought about dealer 31 trucks.

884R, does your truck show 31s on the sticker in the door jamb even?

Camo, no, im just settling a dispute. I've got more thirds than i know what to do with anyway... same goes for 4runners. I need to get rid of some of both.

A friend and i are trying to relate wheeling 37"s w/ 4.88s to something we've driven before.... closest is a 31" with 4.10s, so then came the logical question, did they have factory trucks with 31s and 4.10s

37's and 4.88's would be closer to 33's and 4.10/4.30's

There was no first gen that ever came stock with 31" tires.

The ONLY stock gear ratios available in first gen 4Runners were 4.10 (manual trans) or 4.30 (auto trans)

it should be closer to 31s and 4.10s: (lower number is better)

37/4.88 = 7.58
31/4.10 = 7.56

for reference:

33/4.10 = 8.05
33/4.30 = 7.67

28/4.10 = 6.83 (stock)
33/4.88 = 6.76 (current)

That's what I was thinking. Mine came with the 225/75s from the factory, and I didn't really catch the FACTORY part until after TC posted. Anyway, like DeathCougar said, they all came with the 4.10s. Sorry about the confusion.
