my tires go \ / then / \

Okay, I blew out a trunion bearing and I had the knuckles rebuilt with everything. Now my tires still go into a \ / when driving forward and when I go into reverse they go into a / \. I can't figure it out, since the knuckles were just rebuilt. Does anyone have any other suggestions?

Is the diagram / \ an overhead view, or a from the front view.

I was hoping from above.... was going to suggest something loose or worn in your steering components.

I assume you've checked the obvious and eliminated any type of bearing play?

Something has to be loose for your tires to change like that.

I am trying to figure out what, I need to get it up on jacks and see if anything has play in it, I was just hoping for some advice before I started digging in.

How tight (or loose) did you set the knuckle bearing pre-load?

I didn't do the rebuild myself. It was done to specification, I watched the guy do it.

Trunion bearings would indicate that he has a solid axle up front, so IFS rules fixes dont apply lol.

did he use the correct number of shims? If not, no matter how much you overtighten the knuckle retainer nuts, it will never be tight.

All of the tires or just the front? If its the front somethin in the alignment might be severly ed up. Do you have the bearings rebuilt at a shop? If so they prolly jsut threw it all back to gether and didn't correctly align and or connect something back. Did you check your steering system. Tirerods, relay bars ect.

It is SFA. All the bearings were brand new, he did all the shims by the book. The steering is a new hysteer. Had it installed just before the trunion blew out.

Which book?

My impression was that the shims are case by case... requiring a specific Toyota alignment tool to get things perfect.

Most people just take care to keep the shims in the right order and assume if it worked before, it will work again.

Have you jacked front end off the ground and pulled and tugged on everything? To me, that's the next step.

Nothing is loose, I put it on jackstands this morning and checked everything for play. Nothing moved.

I checked all the steering components and everything was tight with no play...

I may have to take it to a shop and have them look at it, I am just getting frustrated now...

sounds like he put too many shims in or the bearing race popped off(hopefully he replaced the races)
