rear main seal

so im going to replace my clutch, should i replace my rear main seal? ive been told, that if its not leaking not to cause they dont need it unless they leak? id assume i should, but im not sure.

For what it's worth you may as well. Hate to spend next weekend replacing a cheap seal cuz you were lazy this weekend. Make Sense?

Go ahead and replace it if you got the clutch out. You'll also need to replace the rear oil retainer seal as well.

It's not hard to do when the tranny is out.

No not a trick question

The rear main seal is IN the Oil Retainer. It's a aluminum cover that goes on the back of the motor (like the front cover) but it surrounds the rear crank output and the rear main seal is actually pressed into it. Then the retainer is bolted to the block. Inbetween the retainer and the block you put a seal =P

It's just a gasket, use RTV w/ the gasket.

You don't need to drain the motor oil. I replaced both seals without any oil leaking out.
