thinking of trading in highmiles for a newer version...

i am seriously considering trading in my 97 SR5 V6 4x4 for a 2000 limited 4x4. i really like the appearance and it drives great. plus, the huge factor is mine now has 277K on it, and the 2000 only has 98K. i can get a pretty good deal in it too. anything i should look for that may be different on the 2000 verses my 1997? thanks, chris.

i think i attached a pic of the new one...

Things should be relatively the same I'd imagine. You'll notice newer, better creature comforts like cup holders and such but the overall mechanics should be the same.

If the 2000 you're looking at was made in the early part of the year, you'd probably benefit from having an extra inch or so of stock lift over your current 97 (that is, if you haven't upgraded).

Other than that, I'd say do what you did with your current '97 and you shouldn't have a problem getting that type of mileage out of the '00!

With all the nice ergonomic upgrades it will seem like a new truck especially with no more drinks mounted on the dash.

Other standout upgrades were auto up AND down control on both front windows, multiple power outlets (3 total up front and one in the hatch),rotary HVAC controls and better headlamps.

Sounds like a smart move, can't go wrong with a limited. Does it have the rear locker?

The biggest pros would be the interior amenities and the multi-mode 4WD, which allows you to put the 4Runner into 4WD on dry-pavement. If it were me, I'd do it in a heartbeat.

I don't understand how people are baggin on the cup holders.

I mean yes they're a ty idea and the 99 and newers someone was wearing their smart cap that day at work but I have never in the 2 and a half years I have had it had a cup come out or anything. I broke the spring on the drivers side holder and it now holds Super Size drinks.

I know the newer ones are better but people are always talking about their cup coming out and I have never had the problem.

I never had a cup fall out, but because of the filmsy design, I've had splatters all over the place. Plus, during the summer time, if you put a cup in the holder, it's RIGHT in the way of the vent. How stupid is that?

Tell me any major repairs and what is the secret?

ps-no rear e-locker. but my 97 doesn't have it either.

Meh, you can always install an ARB locker. Good choice on the 2000 Limited. Hope everything goes well.

I'm diggin on my newly aquired 00 limited. Wish it had the e-locker. I've noticed the extra weight of the vehicle compared to my 95.5 Taco really helps to keep the rear wheels from spinning, helps keep 'em on the ground. Even stock with running boards this thing will go lots of places.

Any one know if the e-locker can be added to the rear diff, or does it require a new third member? In which case you might look for other options.
