01 Tacoma w/ Black Grillcraft w/ red TRD badge (Ivan Stewart look alike)

I recently ordered the black MX Grille from Grillcraft. I ordered it through Luke at Truck Alterations. Email: sales @ truckalterations . com for $150 shipped.

I also was able to find the red TRD badge from the Tundra Ivan Stewart package. I ordered it from Rafa M. Email: rafam @ northridgetoyota . com for $17 shipped .

Here is the part from Grillcraft (except in black) http://www.grillcraft.com/applicatio...ma.aspx/1/408/

I plan to install the grill on my 01 taco so it matches the Tundra edition as shown here:

The Grill came in, as did the TRD badge. See install below.

(This post is for those who plan on doing this mod but can't find the parts. Please bump this post if you plan on doing this mod.)

Thanks man.. Pictures of the progress below. Detailed pictures of the Grillcraft instillation can be found here: http://www.grillcraft.com/installs/i...?install_id=47

Finding the red TRD badge was a task since they don't make them any more. I heard Northridge Toyota had some, but when I called the parts guy he had no idea what I was talking about. It wasn't till a week later that I got an email reply from Rafa. He informed me that they had some made by a local guy that makes emblems for Northridge Toyota and that they have some extras and he would ship one out to me.

I thought about paint matching the stock grille first, but I said heck with it and tore into it anyway. Q's or comments welcome.. Enjoy!

SuperGlue on the back of the TRD badge sticker to make sure that it stays on.

Black High Temp spray paint for everything behind grille.

Expanded metal lath (aka wire mesh) as a second layer behind the Grillecraft grille. Anti-rust spray paint used to paint it black. Helps to keep bugs out and it makes the grille not as translucent.

After cutting out the middle of the stock grille with a sawzall , use a dremel to grind off any excess plastic to smooth it out. This is the longest part of the install . Lightly use black spray paint to touch up any rough spots.

Make sure Grillecraft grille is completely pressed into the stock grille so it sits correct before marking screw holes. Paint screws black. Fasten the Grillecraft grille to the stock one using supplied screws.

Fasten expanded metal lath to stock grille using zip ties.

Bend the hood release lever down before installing grille.

You will now need to slide your finger between the hood and the grille and push the hook to the left in order to open the hood.

Here are some pretty crappy night shots , but you guys get the idea.

I'll post more pictures after the truck gets fully detailed. And after the Bentup bumper w/ smittybuilt winch (fully synthetic) goes on. And I should do something about the 2.5 Tundra race runners that are laying around here too. After that it will be about time to stop using this TRD supercharger as a paperweight and slap it on.. Along with a URD 7th kit that should be in the mail here in a couple of weeks...

That grill is MONEY!! Love the blacked out front look with the TRD badge in red. It seriously took me two weekends to finish my SATOSHI and it looks like we mounted our grills similar..must've been nice to slap that bad boy on with no fiberglass. Well done.
