ive got an 88 standard cab.
the amp ive got is an alpine m450.brand new( gotta smokin deal on it).the amp puts out 220 at 4ohm and 400 at 2ohm.
i want to put a kicker 10" cvr or cvt in a truck box that they sell as a kit.those subs handle 400 watts rms.
i wonder which sub to buy to get all 400 watts out of this amp.i want to run the amp at 2ohm to get the 400 watts out of it, does that mean i buy the 2ohm sub and it works that way or do i have to wire a 4ohm sub in a certain configuration to achieve this?

 

yes you want to get the 2 ohm sub. if you are not able to get a 2 ohm sub, you will need to get a 4 ohm dual voice coil sub. if you get a d.v.c sub wire it paralell(?) can't spell to save my life. what this means is that you would wire the + of one coil to the + of the other and then to the + of the amp. and then the - of one coil to the - of the other then to the - of the amp. this will give you 2 ohms at the amp. hope this helps.

 

you'll need a 2 ohm single voice coil sub, or a 4 ohm dual voice coil sub to get a 2 ohm load on the amp. if you get the dual voice coil sub, the wiring configurations from the12volt.com or crutchfield are the best around. it's not too complicated.

for instance, i'm running a 2 ohm DUAL voice coil sub that i can run in either a 4 ohm or 1 ohm load. my amp is 1 ohm stable, so i wired it for 1 ohm to get the maximum capacity out of the amp. if i wanted to go wussy, i'd run in 4 ohm and only get about 200w instead of 500.

Everything about the wiring of the sub they said is right. You will for sure want to wire it up so the amp will work at 2 ohms. Depending on what you want for sound you will probably want to turn the gain and bass boost down on the amp with everything wired that way otherwise that sub will rattle your truck apart and overpower the other speaks in the little truck. Also with the amp gain and bass boost down the sub will just have a much better sound quality. The best thing you can do for tuning the system is to take most of the bass away from the dash speakers (bass down on the deck) and use the sub for any bass you want. After all this is what it is designed for. Happy listening!

get a 2ohm sub or wire a 4ohm dvc sub correctly, thats kinda what i was thinking, and that's just what i will do.
i want the the most power so i can do what COROLES said.turn most of the power down so i get a tight drum punch and sound quality.i listen to rock/country.so im just looking for full sound.but when someone needs to "hear" what it can do i can crank her up and let her go.

 

My advice on a standard cab is not to get an enclosure sub! I had 2 8"SAS Bazookas behind my seats, facing the doors, with 200watts. When my friends first heard it (from outside the truck) they swore I had put in atleast 2 twelves. But my seat sat all the way back. I never had any problems with them, they were well protected/constructed, and as loud as my other car with a solo 15". The sound quality even at my highest volume setting remained clear and undistorted. Standard cabs are tight, and It starts to suck riding on top of the steering wheel even with the smallest built box. I did have a friend take my advice and he ended up scooting the seat forward two clicks and installed 4 of them.

 

yeah bazooka's do sound nice,and they were my first option.then i scored this alpine amp at a great deal,so im kinda stuck with it.
i dont know if a bazooka 8" would handle the power of that alpine.
im gonna look back into it.

 

make sure your head unit is on 0 for bass and treble. then make sure you set the gain and bass boost as close to the volume you will be listening to. this is the best way. you said you like country and rock. which ever you listen to more , play it first and adjust the gain and bass boost according then play the rock or country and see how it sounds. if it's a little off adjust it to where it sounds good with both. you can do this at the amp or with your head unit since you adjusted it with everything at 0. i had 4 JL 12W3's some pioneer seperates and a couple PPI amps in my old truck that sounded awesome with blues, country , rock , alterintive , anything. it just takes a little time to adjust it . take your time and you will be fine. i hope this helps.

I have never listened to a CVT, I have a 10'' CVR and it freaking hammers and I only have about 250w going to it. hopefully upgrading to a CVX soon

 

I see most Bazookas advertised with integrated amps, but I am pretty sure they still make unpowered. Besides, power makes clarity, but an amp adjusted improperly with too much power makes distortion.

 

The only difference between the CVR and the CVT is the depth. The CVT was designed for people who wanted the CVR sound but did not have the space to put one in. The CVX is is the same magnet structure as the L7, just round. I have had experience with the whole kicker line and it is always a good choice, just pick the sub to suite your application.

 

i had a chance at 2 12 inch kicker cvr's in a sealed box with a 1600 watt bazooka amp for $200... it sold 3 hours before i got to the shop. death?
