3.0 to 3.4 swap

I was reading some threads and noticed a few people mentioning switching to 3.0 V6 to the more reliable 3.4 V6 or a Supra engine. Well, I have a 94 4runner which needs an engine and the more i look the more i find that the 3vze wasn't exactly Toyotas best engine (to put it nicely). I was wondering about the swap and then after browsing through the forum thought maybe a few of you could help me out. Anybody with any ideas of how much this might cost me and how much of a hassle it is let me know. Thanks alot

Welcome noob. Try another search. The info is out there, I garantee it.

It will cost around $4 - $7K depending on the engine and the cost of install. Its a "hassle" to some, to others its a challenge.

Thanks alot 96 for the quick reply. As far as the engine goes, I can find a 3.4 for less than the 3.0. My dad and I were gonna put a new 3.0 in ourselves, but I'm not sure about the 3.4 or Supra. I guess I'll go look around for some swaps, but if you think of anything that might help me, let me know.

The 3.4 is more expensive than the Supra motor for starters. Not sure what the 7M-GE goes for, but I found a 7M-GTE for $1000 complete with intercooler, harness, ECU and Bellhousing. If you are mechanically inclined, You should be able to do this swap for under $2K. (I'm hoping anyway since I want to do it.)

If I were in your situation, I would go with the Supra motor. If you can find one for the price that Cebby mentioned, do it. That's a great price!

Just remember, we all want pics and a good write up when you are finished.

I was on an autralian 4runner site, and someone had swapped in an american V8 into a runner, have you guys seen this done before. I'll try to find the website and post to this thread. I think it was into a 91, not sure but thats what I'm thinking. Are there any other V8 swaps for the older runners??

First post!

That V8 swap is John Douglas' 5.0 into a '91. Here's the link...

EDIT: I've been researching engine swaps as well, and if you can get a 7M-GTE cheaper than a 5VZE, do it. I think I'll go the V8 route, but a 7M-GTE will be a lot cheaper to get extra hp.

Also, AKA 'Runnin High' for all you ODW members.

I dont remember where I ever ran across the write-up on a chev v-8 swap, but the guy doing the work admitted it was a nightmare from start to finish. As Cebby had said in an earlier post, why would you WANT a chevy engine in a Toyota?
"Well, I just got tired of the dang thing starting all the time!" Supra straight 6 or the 3.4L for me. (If anyone ever markets the "So easy, any boob can do it" engine swap kit.)
