98 4 runner, clutch pedal popping/squeaking!!

Hi everyone!! B4 I get bashed I know all about the clutch squeak thread and so forth, but I read through the entire thing and couldnt find anything concrete on what mine was doing compared to everyone elses...
Anyhow, I do have the famous squeak when pushing the clutch pedal down but mine makes a popping sound when the pedal is pressed about 1/2 to 3/4 of the way down(not all the time, but about 1/10 times the pedal is pushed)... Is this a common thing too with the pedal problems that everyone has?? This sound would resemble an ankle or knuckle popping/cracking sound...It didnt look like these trucks had clutch pedal bracket problems from what I read...Do I just need to do the spring mod to clear up this type of symtom as well???? thanks everyone..

i bet it's just the stock spring binding up then popping. i'd just do the mod and you'll probably experience a nicer pedal feel. i had the pedal squeak when i first got the 4runner a year ago, and switched out the stock spring for a linear spring from carquest. it was $3!
still have the recoil- now without the squeak.

nope! not the spring. The bushing the middle of the spring sits in is bad. replace your clutch pedal bushings. very common problem

I have a pretty noticeable squeak as well but mine isn't from inside the car it is coming from the boot on the side of the actual transmission under the car. I don't quite what it is...but look into that as well.

I actually got underneath it last night and the bushings actually seem to be intact, but that big pos spring thingy was binding up and making all the noise...I guess thats the thing everyone removes...huh??
