Stock Radio Backlighting

I was wondering if anyone has changed the backlight of their stock radio or front window switches to a different color?

If so, How hard/time consuming was it?

I think I've read a post a loooooooooooong time ago where a guy looked into trying it. Too much hassle and not worth the time. Just get a new headunit. They've got almost every single color in every shade out right now.

Odds are they are lit with LEDs now, but I'm not certain. And if they're surface mounts, they'd be nearly impossible to change. I agree with the aftermarket idea.

Aren't they the neo wedge style bulb? I pulled the stock unit out of my 96 T4R b/c the backlight showing the station was out. I replaced it with a new neo wedge and it works fine now. I believe the switches are the same. It looks possible to swap out for LED but as small as they are and as tight as the wires are wound in there I don't think anybody without lots of experience could do it. I could be wrong though.
They may be different in the 99-02 style from the 96-98 also.
