2nd Gen 2 Door 4Runners....
Ok...I know what they are and have seen them. My question is this. Is there a demand for these trucks...and would you expect to get more for them than an equivilant 4 Door 4Runner. They are getting up in age now and age sometimes brings beauty.
To my knowledge, along with the tarrifs, they just didnt sell well compared to 4 door models when new. Has the tables been turned now and they are a hot item since they are rare???
Just wondering...

I thought they were kind of cool and there is a market for them but they don't sell as fast as the 4dr models do. The 2dr is more of an "enthusiast" type truck where as the 4dr seems to sell more as a "family transport" vehicle.
Because of the rarity and if you have one in good condition you can list it for pretty much what you want it will just take longer to move is all.

If you had purchased a 2dr new, you had quite a hefty tax to pay aswell, along the lines of 2,000 dollars, that combined with it being smaller probibly made it less appealing to most. BUt I like em, look better then the 4 door ones

My rig is a 1991 2dr 4x4 w/the 3.0 and a 5spd tranny. Its from calif. so there is not rust, and I just had a bedliner treatment put on the frame. I had never seen a 2nd gen 2dr until this one. I look every other day for others, and I have only found two more 91's all the others are 90's.

why were the taxes higher on these? are they really smaller?

i've been around the 4drs too, and they seem very close in size. all exterior dimensions are the same, to my knowledge. however, back seat access is a real pain. and it doesn't help that my back window stopped working, so not having a 2nd set of doors doesn't help. other than that, i love it.

Wheelinnoob has a 93 2dr, pretty neat, he has it pretty modded too.
I can't remember exactly why, I read somwhere it had to do with the number of doors or somthing, it was classified as a truck. Sorry im not much help

I have heard that the reason why the tarriffs were put on the two door models because of pressure from the american auto companies, apparently the 2door 4runners (I am guessing the 1st gen ones) were starting to out-sell all of the domestics, and out-selling them by alot, so they bitched and got their way and then the 2doors cost more than the 4doors so nobody bought them, then toyota stopped making them
Again, I heard this, so I can't claim any references
Personally, I would love to have one, the 4dr ones are fast becoming a dime a dozen, they were extremly popular up here (all yota's are, I see 5-6 4x4 extended cab truck like mine every time I leave the house, and I am not exaggerating)
I get tired of seeing the 4 doors, I have only ever seen three 2dr one for sale, I would have bought the second but I had just bought my truck a week before hand, I would pay more than a comparable 4 door, easily 1-2k more just because they are rare, and you'll never see another one at the gas station (okay maybe once a year or so)
