My Blank Canvas
I bought an '88 Toyota Pickup with 64,545 original miles about 1 month ago. It was repainted red about six months ago and runs like a champ. Its a 22RE 4 cylinder 2.4L automatic and has newer performance tires. The last owner put the Supra wheels on it, I didn't put them on. Besides that, the truck is pretty much stock.
I don't do any off road driving, just use the truck to get from point A to point B. I live in South Florida where its completely flat, no hills. I have a work vehicle, so I only drive this a few times a week. I might put 5,000 miles in a year on this vehicle. I occasionally throw luggage, groceries, small pieces of furniture, etc. in the bed, but thats really it.
My two main questions are 1) I need new shocks, and based on the type of driving I do, what kind should I get? I'd like something to help make the ride as smooth as can be.
2) Like I said this truck is essentially stock, and I'm undecided if I want to put some money into it to make it look more like some of these trucks on this board. Any suggestions? Bigger tires? Lift it? I'm starting from scratch...
Basically any ideas and cost estimates are what I'm looking for.

I think you probably have the best idea. I'm not going to do anything with it, just keep it mostly stock and drive as is.
I ordered some Pro Comp ES1000 shocks, will they be adequate for light driving around flat smooth paved Florida roads?

I love the two different style mirrors lol. cant say im a fan of the paint...but I digress.
i wouldn't bother lifting it or putting larger tires on it. its a 4x2.
Pro Comp shocks will work great for that truck.

From: Cincinnati, Ohio - Amelia is the exact place. There is no one else on this site from where I am. Seems like everyone is from Cali or Washington. I guess I need to move.
something you might also want to do is a typical tune up, with a fuel filter change if that stuff looks like its never been done before. If it runs good now, it might run even better after that!

DeathCougar...you truly know your Toyota's. I didnt even notice the different mirrors on my own truck until you told me!
f4stunna....I'm such a Floridian I didnt even think of salt on the roads up north! I was thinking of salt from the ocean breeze! I've never lived with salt on the roads and have only seen snow from airplanes when flying.
infiltrator...I bought this truck for $2000. I feel like I got a deal. I love this truck.
The guy I bought it from was a mechanic and everything looks like its been recently replaced/cleaned/switched/drained/etc (all wires and plugs look clean and new, dizzy cap is clean, fluids are clear and clean) For peace of mind though, next week I'm going to do a really good tune up to make sure everythings clean and fresh. I bought some new shocks to smooth out the ride, I'll probably do it all then when I put those on. I'll probably just keep regular routine maintainance up on it and drive it till its 25 or 30 years old!
