New T100 Cruise Control problem

Hi again everyone! I just bought a new t100 and I love it except for two small problems. One with the wipers which i already posted about. and the second it with the cruise control, it doesn't work. The light on the dash comes on when i turn it on but when i go to set it, it does nothing. I'm guessing it is probably a relay or something like that that is bad. Does anyone know what it could be? Thanks in advance.

Check the fuse, your brake lights, and your brake fluid level. If those are good, find the actuator--under the hood at the other end of the second throttle cable. Take the cover off and cycle the arm from stop to stop about 5 times. This cleans the crud off of the contacts inside.

Good luck,
Dan

The brake fluid level and lights are fine. I cleaned off the to of the actuator the other day because it was greasy. I will move it like you said to clean the contacts in there. Is there anything else it could be? What electronic components are in the cruise control?

There is a lot that it could be, VSS, ECU, bad connection etc, but if the light isn't blinking, I am pretty sure you don't have a serious problem. The Cruise thinks it is working, but the contacts aren't allowing current to flow, resulting in no CC

Yup thats exactly what it was. I just moved it back and forth for a while to get any gunk off of there and it works great.

Cool, I am glad it works, CC stuff is spendy.

FYI, this is a common theme for almost all 90s toyota vehicles....

Auto or manual transmission?

Did you check the cancle switch off of the brake pedal? That's a common failure switch...

Auto transmission....I will check that switch next. I also have a brake light that is on because the emergency brake is broken....I wonder if that would have anything to do with it?

Yes...big time. The cruise control is cancelled by the brake switch.

That switch should be rather easy to replace. Just pull and replace. Make sure you git the adjustment correct.
