Hey guys... just had someone work on my truck the other weekend (Was fixing clutch bracket... he had removed the dash to look around). i got it back, and the steering wheel is now almost upside down when im driving. It still drives straight, and corners well... just wondering how it could have got like this? Anything to worry about?.... he mentioned that he "Had a hard time moving around inside the truck by the steering wheel". Yet, he didnt mention that he had done this....

It's not too hard too pull the steering wheel off and align it properly.

i just pulled mine off yesterday to put on a new wheel, and i dont think i got it dead on, gonna pull it off and put it over a tooth or two.

pop the cetner cap off, or remove the screws at the lwoer end of the wheen on the back, and just use an 18mm? socket/torque wrench and get that nut loose. use a puller if it wont come out, but sicne it was recent, it should pop out, and just move it upside down.

make sure to have the tires straight when you park it.

Very easy to fix... the horn button comes off with one or two Phillips heads screws then disconnect it. The steering wheel is held on by the big nut just unscrew it and you can wiggle the steering wheel off... or you can go buy/rent a puller in which case thread the puller bolts into the two threaded holes either side of the large nut [after removing it] then position the puller bolt against the dimple in the end of the steering shaft and crank away...
but you really don't need the puller in my experience.

19mm for that one...but always 17mm or 19mm...no 18mm on Toyota

 

meh i tried banging on it yesterday and couldnt get it os i just threw the nut on there, and drove down to autozone, rented the puller for $16, and within a half hour was returning it and getting my money back.

 

Just a little advice, if you are going to do it without a puller, leave the nut on the last thread or so when you try to get it off, or just wear a helmet.

 

Where's the fun in that?
