will i be looking at any problems if i run these? i rmoved my Daytime's some time ago so they dnt run all the time, so i only use them at night. NOW, i have read that you can run these with-out frying your system as long as they are 12V or are not on all the time. is this true or am i in for a surprise if i use these bulbs? also, i think i might do Hellas H4 true blue bulbs 900/120W 12V bulbs? they are cheap cheap here, like $6us for them 12bz! so why not if my system can support them!

 

Hmmm..... Interesting question, but I wouldn't chance it with that small dinky wiring. Look at your battery terminals. They are huge, so if you put a little wire on there as your main, you'd almost certainly fry it. Same concept with the Headlights. If you're going to up the antee, I'd recommend going with some larger wires, or at least upgrading the fuse/relay. With the extra power that those require, you will probably blow some fuses. I'm not an expert on electrical, but I do know some of the basics. I'd ask someone who REALLY knows about this.

 

Easy way to tell is slap a volt meter across the back side of the bulb connector when the bulb is on and see what it reads:

If not within 0.5 volts of the battery, consider upgrading the wiring. I saw about a 2.5 volt drop on mine @ 100 watts with the stock wiring. With the upgraded wiring harness, I now see about 0.3-0.4 volts drop.

 

wouldn't recommend running that high a wattage bulb. the wires are pretty small, and the voltage drop is enough just with the stock setup.

if you're looking to make em brighter 4crawlers site there is a great reference, and he even has a replacement relay setup that is essentially plug and play to get much more voltage to the lights.

 

I have run 80/100w on the stock setup on my '93 for three or four years now without any reliability issues. That being said you might as well pony up the $40 for the upgrade harness to make sure that you are actually getting the wattage that you think you are.

 

where would a upgraded harness be found? my harness is all chewed up. not to mention the guy who had it before me electrical taped the stereo wires together instead of using an adapter and buttsplicing them.

The harness does not replace any of the stock system. It just plugs in and uses heavier gauge wire and relays to bypass the stock wiring so that the increased amperage draw is not stressing the system. Everything is still controlled by the stock wiring so if you have issues already then you will still need to address them as well.
