Fall Colors Ride-Oct 26-28, GWNF, Va
The Toyota Fall Colors Ride will be held at George Washington National Forest just west of Harrisonburg, VA on October 26-28. The trails are very stock & mild lift friendly. This is an annual event we hold every October to accomodate those who have never wheeled and would like to try it out and also to just get together, run mild trails and tell campfire stories for 3 days.
The National Forest is located about 20 minutes west of Harrisonburg, VA on Route 33. The campsite will be at the meadow by Skidmore Lake off Rt 33. This is a primitive campground. (For the newbies: that means there are no facilities
)
Follow Route 33 west out of Harrisonburg for approx. 20 minutes. You will start going up the mountain and hit all the "switchbacks". Going up the switchbacks there will be a left turn (It is the ONLY left turn with a turning lane). Take that left and follow the gravel road down the mountain. At the bottom of the mountain there will be a concrete bridge. Turn left immediately after the bridge and you will enter a small meadow. To the right you will see a trail that leads to a large meadow where we will be camping.
This is not going to be a "hardcore" wheeling trip, as there are no hardcore trails at GWNF. The Fall Colors Ride is more of a casual "meet and greet" and scenic trailride. All 4wd Toyota's are welcome. So come join the fun, see old buddies and meet all the guys you've been "web wheeling" with.
Post up if you plan on attending so we can keep an updated list on attendees. The more the merrier fools! I have this posted on our forum at www.midatlantictoyotacrawlers.com and also on www.fjcruiserforums.com
We had a great turnout last year. The trail team came out and we had approx. 30 FJC's out there. Come on out and join the fun!

I moved to Richmond 2 years ago and have yet to do any offroading in my Tacoma since I moved here. My truck is still all stock and this sounds like a lot of fun. Obviously I will need camping gear and food for 3 days. Do I need anything else? If I can't make it Friday night can I roll in Saturday morning?
thanks

I'm not sure where information would be available online. There are a lot of trails up in the National Forest. We will be breaking up into at least 5 groups. It also looks like there is a fireban because of the drought so dress warm and bring a propane lantern if you have one for light.

Bummer... I didnt know if that trail had changed between the two open areas.. I do remember it being a tight trail with a dip in it..... If I remember correctly...I should be able to park it in the small field before trail? If not I can bring the Excursion, (although its 2wd), maybe it can squeeze through that trail? Kinda the bad thing about having a Trail only rig... Got to be towed everywhere. 65mph on 37" Krawlers for 1200miles would probably kill me.
