You can make anything fit but personally I think it would look horrible.
I would try photoshopping some pictures before anything.

Yeah it looks so bad that every other country got that model except us.

I've often wondered that myself. I think the excab shortbed models look sweet. The only way to know if it would fit though is to measure the body mounts on an xcab and compare it. I'm not sure if the wheelbase would be the same as the over seas trucks either.

Sounds like a great project though...

I am not a fan of double-cabs because of the weird looking beds, I do like the look of the Nissan double-cab Frontiers with the longbed.
Supposedly Tacomas were going to be the same and when the Frontiers didn't sell well Tacomas kept the chopped bed only (Not current model).
I may be wrong but, my assumption was that you have a shortbed regular cab which would put the back of an extra-cab pretty close to the rear tire and have that chopped bed look.
To each his own!

But I'd really like to see a 3rd gen xcab swap. That'd be nice

It can be done. I looked into extensively. If your going to run no larger than 33's, you could be ok, but the cab goes 18" into the bed. That takes you 7 inches or so into your wheel well. Anything larger than 33" and possibly with 33's, you will encounter tire rub on the cab. Solution, notch the cab or push the rear axle back. Pushing the axle back will take you out of your wheel wells, so you'd have to adjust for that.

I've seen it in person and it doesn't look as appealing in person as it does in the idea.

The swap worked on the other truck in the above link due to it being a different year. The extended cabs in 2nd gens are shorter than our 3rd gens.
