Texas_Ace 2000 4Runner Build-Up - Stage 1
About time i got this posted up!
Ok, after a lot of work I have got stage one build up done!
My truck is:
2000 Toyota 4runner Limited
3.4l V6
Auto Tranny (going to convert to Manual?)
Sunroof
And all the extras you could get with it. MSRP was $40,000 on it! REALLY, I didn?t think they were made that high either.
I got it used in April 2007 for $9600 with 125K and near perfect condition. Just needed the timing belt done and it was ready for anything.
So time for a formal interdiction of my ride (and yes I just want to show it off!).
WARNING! LOT AND LOTS OF PICS!
So here is an overall list of mods I have done thus far:
PEFORMANCE
MSD dis-4 + tach adapters
Short-ram intake with Cone filter (and a great sound)
Odyssey PC1700 battery
TRD oil cap
Added electronic fans
Tranny cooler
Stainless steel hoses
Silicone hoses for all the rest
Synthetic Fluid conversion
Full chassis lube (made a BIG difference)
BRAKING
Tundra Brake upgrade
EXTERIOR
Stainless Steel Grill Guard
Rear 100watt backup lights
REAL HID conversion headlights 4100K 35watt H4-2 bulbs (bulbs that have halogen on low bean and the sun on high beams, see below for pictures of what the lights look like at night)
Complete LED light conversion (except for the dash lights, getting to that soon)
Clear Corner lights
ALTEZZA rear lights in black
1.5? Inch wheel spacers (yeah I know they suck but they work until I can get my new ones?)
Rear light bar
3 TRD stickers (these are the premium model! Each adds 55HP instead of the normal 40HP!!)
Hood scoop (if ya?ll like it I will make it work)
OFF-ROAD ENHANCEMENTS
3 Hella 500?s in the front (2 with silverstars for driving lights and the other with 100watt light for off-road)
Extra fog lights for off road (yea there are a lot, no comments....)
INTERIOR
Built in power inverter
Fire extinguisher
Survival Kit
All-weather black mats
New stereo setup with the following:
Alpine Deck
Door speakers are EFX components. 6.5? in the front and 5.25? in the rear
DIYMA 12? 1000watt SQ sub in sealed box
A/S/D/ 5.25 amp (old school EXTREME HIGH QUALITY AMP) for the drivers
EFX 300 watt RMS high performance amp for the sub (will be adding a second sub and upgrading to an HD amp soon)
2 gauge wiring kits all around
12 disc CD-changer
Added LED electronic gauges:
Tranny temp
Oil pressure
Voltage
Now for the pics!
This is how i got it.

And here is what it looks like now: (the rally light has since been replaced with another hella 500)

And here are what my lights look like at night. The one looking at the road is what it looks like and the next shows what lights you saw on the road. The ones with the headlights on and the fogs off (except for the very first one) have the HID high beams on that is why they are so bright.

Some VERY bright map lights that i replaced the stock ones with.

And here is a rechargable flashlight that i got at wal-mart for $8. It is LED and VERY VERY bright. The first shows it charging in the lighter and the next shows in shining on the road. I highly recomend this.

The rest of the currant mods will be shown in a few days.
Now for the Stage 2 mods to come:
Headers and new exhaust
New suspension setup with coils shocks and the whole nine yards. And of course a lift
New tires, not sure how big yet
SUPERCHARGER and all that goes with it except the tranny mods
Convert to a manual Tranny!
Dual lockers
Then who knows what...
If you have any questions about any of the mods I can make a write-up of them. I know that a lot of them have already been done so I will let ya?ll tell me what you want and what not.
DON'T WORRY!! IT WILL LOOK LIKE A PROPER TRUCK AS SOON AS I GET IT PAID OFF IN A FEW MONTHS AND HAVE THE $$ FOR THE BIG STUFF!!!!

good lord what have you done
.
just kidding.
looks like someone went on an autozone shopping spree...
Did you install a high amp alternator to run all of that?
And why have leather if you're going to cover it up with something that belongs in a 1990 celica
Scrolling through the before pics was like showing up for a blind date. Lots of anxiety for the potential of what that nice 4runner could become.
Getting through the after pics was like, like, well I don't know how to describe it. But it wasn't the best experience in my life.

I thought you said there were a lot of pictures??
Okay, where to begin. A couple things...first off, it appears your aftermarket hood scoop is mounted backwards? Granted it has no function, but shouldn't it face the other direction? Second, I like a lot of lights too (check out my 4Runner), but all the small blue lights up front around the bumper seem to be a bit much IMO. I'd also be afraid someone might see those (and the LED tube on the rear bumper) and simply steal them.
Oh and it appears you don't want anyone to see your car tag in these pictures (and your front one for that matter), but you forgot to bleep it out in one of the pictures close to the beginning. I'm sure someone is already spreading it all through the internet...
There's more I could say, but I'll shutup. You seem to be enjoying truck nonetheless.
EDIT: Oh yeah...lose the steering wheel cover, immeadiately. Andy finally, do you ever plan to off road your 4Runner? If so, I'd be really careful where I took it.

Good ;-)
I am getting a high amp alternator, just want to get the group buy on the headers first.
The seat covers were actually a temporary thing for a paintball trip to OK d-day (things get REAL messy and I didn?t want to mess up the leather.) They are now out
And don?t worry, it will look like a proper truck soon enough! I just got it and still have a little to pay off before the big stuff?
The hood scoop will work when I get the time to cut a hole in the hood. And facing it like that cools MUCH better than the other way. I just wanted to see if I liked it before I cut the hole. And the blue lights up front might come off, a friend of mine had them laying around so I decided to see what I could do with them. They are aimed where when on they give about a 270 degree beam of solid light. It was nice when at that paintball game, it made our camp site light up real nice.
The ?LED tube? on the rear is actually a light bar. It acts as extra brake light and looks better in person. And yeah someone might try to take it but it is only $10 so I don?t care.
LOL yeah I guess I did forget that one. It was not so much a big deal to get them all there are a lot of pictures with my plates on from my other cars but I just got the new Photoshop and wanted to play with it.
And the wheel cover was there for the same reason as the seat covers. And the steering wheel is really bad off, it must have been in the sun all the time.
What blue LED lights?

I know there are still some around but you wouldn?t think there would be?

I think i might be able to dig up a few pics of that. It is really not that hard at all.
To install it You just splice 12 wires and then the hard part is done. you just hook up the power wires and the Tach adapters to finish the hook up. The hardest part for me was finding a place to mount it.
I can say that it really helps with the wide-up time and due to this seems to give a large increase in power. There is a power gain for sure but the faster winding makes it feel even better. I took it off after using it for awhile and used the bypass plug and the differnce was major. The low end was much much more sluggish. I got mine off ebay with the tach adapters and wiring harness for $225. it is the older version but the only differnce is how you tune it.
I can make a proper write up if you want with a few more details.

sweet baby jesus.....
Its a RICED 4Runner. Its nice work, and your truck so enjoy away.
But why go to all of the dress up trouble?
Your 'stainless steel hoses'...Those are just metal braided chinese finger traps that slide over the hose, and then a hose clamps holds them on and it is hidden by the big 'connector' but you forgot to rotate the one at the radiator.
That stuff can cause cooling issues, turns out it insulates the hoses and keeps them hotter, in some cases even helping to heat the coolant within...So watch your temps carefully.
Also - forget the headers!!! Buy a alternator quick...your gonna kill that one, and that nice exspensive battery along with it...

DAMN...that thing is BRIGHT. Not really a fan of the scoop or the bule lights all around the front. The wires are too visible and there just too much IMHO. If you like the scoop get a factory one. WAY better.

Um..wow. I guess it's unique.
1)Too many wires. Hide those huge ass crossovers under the seat. You don't want to mess up a "$40k truck" with a boat load of wires. Same goes for all the exterior lighting.
2)Please don't cut a hole under that hood scoop. PLEASE. Do you ever plan on reselling the truck?
3)Steering wheel cover. No no!
4)The LED's on the rear bumper? Did you really mount those with screws?
I'll take it off your hands right now for $8k, spend $1k to restore it and sell it back to you for the $9700 you paid for it.
