Norcal Labor Day weekend trip

A group of us are running Sourgrass trail and Strawberry Saturday the 1st of September. If your interested were meeting in Angels Camp on Hwy 88 Saturday morning. We'll run Sourgrass and then head up to the Strawberry trail head at Caples Lake Maintenance station. There's a killer camp spot that overlooks Caples Lake and Kirkwood about 30 minutes up the trail where were gonna camp Sat night. We'll run the rest of Strawberry on Sunday. It spits you out on Hwy 50 near Kyburz. Here's a picture out of the tent where were camping Sat night.
Both of these trails are rated at a 5 out of 10 for difficulty. They both have a few nasty spots but with some careful driving and sliders you should have no problem.

Here's a link to a video of the trail I found http://video.google.com/videoplay?do...80549194483518
The obstacle at 3:30 is probably the hardest part on the trail.

I'll be rolling into camp late Saturday night after work. Joey, give me a call sometime next week and we can discuss communications options just in case I can't find you.

Angel's Camp and Sourgrass trail are off of Hwy 4, not Hwy 88. How are you getting from Sourgrass to Strawberry? Or do you mean, instead of Sourgrass, Deer Valley (which starts east of Ebbetts Pass) from 4 to 88?

Good point I'm glad your paying attention!! In the past I've ran Deer Valley to get from 4 to 88 but the rigs on this run won't be able to do DV. Its just me and Trekkin Wil on Saturday so I will figure something out. There are a few other trails on 88 I been wanting to look at. Thanks for catching that!!

Okay new plan.. pretty much the old plan. I did some research and only found one trail I want to check out on the 88 side but that is a trip all in itself. Soooo I after doing some research and talking to Tofer I think we will run Sourgrass and then just stay on HWY 4 and head up to Markleeville and then cut across and run down 88 to the Strawberry trailhead. It's probably a 2 hour trip but it's a really pretty drive so it won't be bad. Steve we will plan on meeting you whenever you make it to the camp spot. I'm really hoping that no one is camped there. We will come up with a back up meeting place if that happens.

Alrighty. I'll be up there around 11pm cause I get off work at 5pm on Saturday. I'll say around 11-midnight just to be safe.

Joey, do you have your HAM radio license yet?! I'll hook up my CB again before this trip. Ch 4?

So the GPS coords you sent me are for the sourgrass trailhead/camping spot near by? Can you send me the coords for the strawberry trailhead just so i have them?

Sure channel 4 will work. Those coords are for the Strawberry trailhead not Sourgrass. It's simple to find don't sweat it. The only thing I'm worried about is getting up there and having somebody be in that spot. If that's the case there are quite a few spots between there and the pavement so we'll probably just back track and find a spot for the evening. I won't go farther down the trail so you don't have to run that thing very far at night. The trail to the camp spots is pretty much just gravel so don't sweat running it solo.

Alrighty. I found a couple "ride-alongs" and food has been planned out. My lift shackles arrived yesterday, hopefully I'll have some time to put them on tomorrow after work... the extra droop will be nice to keep my rear end on the ground.

Joey, are you staying through Monday or are you jetting Sunday after wheeling all day? I need to be back Monday late afternoon cause I have work and school on Tuesday. If you are leaving sunday, can you recommend some trail(s) for Harvey and I to do on Monday before we head home? Or anyone else want to chime in?
