Strange AFM noise. Is this right.

I was hoping some of you all could listen to this odd, inconsistant sound I get from my AFM area at an idle. I thought at first it might be an alternator noise but after checking with a steth-a-scope, the alternator isn't making much noise. This sound is coming from the air intake on the afm / air filter intake area. If I use a vacuum hose to listen right down by the fresh air intake area I can tell it eminates from there.
I had my digital camera handy so I recorded a blank video with sound only, and I moved the camera during the recording which lessens the sound in the latter half of the file.
It just sounds really inconsistant to me. My truck engine is all stock except for being slighty bored out when it was rebuilt.
Heres the link.

Thanks.

Sounds like the VAFM flap might be sticking.

Yes, believe it or not, they are now marketing Throttle Body Cleaner as MAF cleaner. I haven't seen anything actually stating "AFM" cleaner yet...

afm adjusting?

Since were on the afm topic,...now you guys have me thinking, maybe I need to adjust my afm since my engine was a rebuild and the cylinders were bored out?
Not sure how far they went with the oversize pistons when the rebuild was done.
It just seems my truck is a little sluggish off the line.

afm adjustments

Yeah I think I will replace my o2 sensor because I have no idea when it was ever replaced before and even though I'm not throwing any codes I have read that some here have noticed improved performance from replacing it. Also I did take the top off the afm and marked where the spring is set with paint. I suppose I could try and move it a notch either way, and see how it runs, always put it back if I have to correct?

Yep. But like I said, I'd track down a LOT of other stuff FIRST before I effed with the VAFM settings. Have you tried some WD-40 on the VAFM flap?

afm flap

No I haven't yet, however I did take a close look at it with the afm cover off when running and it seems to be operating smoothly.
Maybe I will post a video.

I have the same issue..

I have the same sound on my new to me 95 Runner, at first I thought it might be the alternator, but after putting my ear down right over the drivers side headlight where the air intake is, it sounds almost like a rustling/sucking noise. I will check hoses for vaccum leaks and such this weekend. I took out the air filter, vaccumed out any debris from the container unit, reassembled but still no fix. It doesnt do it all the time but quite a bit as far as I can tell. Ive only had the runner for a few days so i havent had a whole lot of time to look into it yet. Truck idles/runs great.

If you find a fix, let me know, and i will too.

Peace
