I/M Readiness emissions error

Hello,

Recently cleaned my throttle body and IAC valve thanks to all the help from members on this great website. Vehicle runs and idles much better now and have zero problems..except I decided to hookup my CAN/OBDII code scanner to check for any engine codes after the maintenance and reset of the system.

After three days of driving around, I am still getting a flashing light on the I/M readiness testing of emmissions for the CAT light (Catalyst Monitor which supposedly checks the catalytic converter) and no trouble codes. I believe this means there may be a potential problem. Vehicle runs great so don't know what's up. I will be up for CA smog inspection in a few weeks so not sure if this may be a problem for smog check. Also, prior to cleaning throttle body, all sensors registered fine when checking with the scanner.

Any clues as to what might be going on or suggestions of items to check??

thank you, Jon

Just ignore it and keep driving normally. That is one of the most difficult drive cycles to reset. Check it every few days and eventually you will have driven the required combination of steps and it will reset.

If you *really* want to understand what is required to reset the various monitors, have a look at this from my site:

Thanks for the info and details on the monitor testing!..seems like I've already gone thru at least a couple good testing cycles but I will check again in a couple days to see if all tests have been run and cleared.

thanks again,Jon

Ok..I'm getting a bit frustrated here as I've driven quite a bit lately and the CAT light has still not reset--all other sensors which were previously incomplete have all completed, except for the CAT sensor. Have followed the testing instructions to try to complete the cycles but the CAT is really stubborn!

Plan on trying to check it out more this weekend..any suggestions or advice on what to check out? thank you,Jon

I think you are too worried about this. It will reset when the correct sequence of events is met. It's really picky.

Just forget about it for a while and drive normally. Eventually it will reset. In the mean time, there is nothing you can do about it.

Looks like you have a lot more patience than I do! Well, all monitors finally reset on Sunday..after almost 4 days worth of driving. All is ok now. Thanks for the advice again.Jon

I don't think it's patience, there's just nothing you can do about it

I am glad you are back in business!
