Slow or no return on seatbelts

Hey everyone, I was thinking last nite when driving home how my seatbelts don't retract very well with helping them. I know I have seen this problem listed here b4. Wouldn't this be a safety recall situation? Just wanted everyone elses opinion.

The get old and worn out. Sometimes gunked up from dirt, hair and 20+ years of use. Try taking them apart and perhaps cleaning them or replacing them with some newer junkyard matching color ones.

Mine I find retract fine at the retractor itself, which means the thing they pass through up by the roof is full of gunk. I took it apart once and cleaned it out and they worked well for a week or two.

How much are new OEM seatbelt replacements?

There is a writeup on 4x4 wire to rewind the spring and clean the belt. What a WORLD of difference cleaning it makes. Wow. Simple mod/repair.
