22re Supercharged? or any extra horse?

has anyone actually supercharged there 22re? been looking around cant really find anything about it. i got a 22re that was rebuilt by the dealer ( i feel bad for the woman who got suckered in ), and i just was trying to find some ways to boost a few more horses, and to see if the supercharger is worth it.. or if there were other things i could do for that that extra ummph and yes im new.

the only place iv seen a supercharger for the 22r is lc engineering. if you really wanna go FI a turbo would be a better option than super for a 22re. but a cam, header/exhaust, headwork like valves, are pretty much where its at on the 22re. its not a motor built to be fast, its built to be nearly bombproof.

LC engineering makes a supercharger for the 22RE also.

LC engineering says that you can do a very mild boost turbo by dropping your base timing, running premium fuel, and <5psi.

Good turbos are mid sized T3s. For a stock 22re, a .42/.48 would be fine. You can find them on Saabs - lots forsale on ebay.
.48/.60 t3 and .60/.63 are also good.. Both are garrett.. Ford is a typical appilcation - SVO, thunderbird turbo coupe, XR4Ti. Anywhere from $100 used to about $550 remanufactured.

You could use a stock 22RTE manifold if you're willing to put up with a toyota turbo - CT20 (stock, expensive) or CT26. I happen to have a turbonetics manifold (new) forsale or you could buy one of those pipe steel ebay units - for the Garrett turbos.

For turbo oiling, you just the port on the passenger side, behind the motor mount or "T" off the oil pressure sender. Drain - weld a flange on to the top of the oil pan.

Turbos are much more efficient than superchargers - especially that Camden unit.

To really do a turbo, you need to drop your compression (new pistons).

The one guy I've seen do a "stock" turbo motor successfully is Rick at Fullboogie.net. He's got a stock motor putting down 175hp. No internal mods. I'll let him expain the EFI to you though.

anyone have any experience with the Aisin AMR500? they are super cheap, can commony be found on the Previa mini van. I picked up the super charger, intercooler, piping off previa for $125. Its lubrication is slef contained, so no need to tap the oil pan. it was also divorce mounted (about 4 ft from the engine, so i would think plumbing to the 22r would be easy. Should make about 6psi. I'm not looking to make a powerouse 22r, just gain a little extra for cheap.

Nope never seen it.

Follow up questions.

Where do you think that's going to fit? The pictures I'm looking at show its belt driven so remote mounting seems unlikely.

Oil drain and supply are very much not an issue for adding, there are atleast three places that come to mind that require no drilling... And two that do.

I

I've actually been thinking the same about the asin, but I cant seem to find anything. For the price, I'm honestly going to try it out. Pair it with bigger injectors, cam and an exhaust. I don't believe you'd get crazy crazy power gains, but as a daily I think it would give it a little more snap on the highway

I'd think a turbo would be more useful than a supercharger for a 22R# engine. That said, when we installed TRD turbos on Tacomas I found it rather boring on the manuals. Now, on the automatic trans Tacoma's they were fun. But to each their own.

I Actually have a factory turbo 4runner. Upgrade to a CT26 and a 82 Supra AFM.
It's got some lag but kicks but when it comes on. I love it!
