Price check R151F and xfer case
Anyone know the market rate for a used (unknown mileage or conditions) R151F tranny with bell housing, and 23-spline transfer case? I just watched the same setup go on ebay for total USD 625. Marlin sells his rebuilt for nearly a grand. My friend offered to sell me his for $100, which I know is a screaming deal - I'm just trying to figure out how much he is losing on the deal, ie, how long I will be buying rounds.

If its got a 22RTE bell housing - its worth a bit (the bell housing)

AFAIK the actual R15x series of trannys themselves are not that valuable.
The 22RTE version I *think* had a low 1st gear and tat is worth more than normal.
The standard v6 ones are not worth much as they are common

Grab it for sure. I got one about 6 months ago for $1500 (w/ dual 23-spline cases and 4.7 gears). Yes, the 151F has the lower 1st gear, 4.31:1 and Marlin has the 5.15 gears now. I think Marlin gets $650 core charge on the tranny alone.

ewong - yes, from turbo. I wonder if it will mate up to my eventual 1KZ-TE, since if I remember correctly the KZs came with W-series trannies? Plenty of time to figure that one out.
4crawler - the R151F stock tranny also has a higher top gear, correct? i jotted the gear ratios down a while back for comparison, from memory gears 1-3 were lower than W-series, both have 1:1 in 4th, and R151F 5th was *higher* than W-series 5th.
Not sure how this will translate for my stocker, but I am putting 31" tires on very soon, so maybe the slightly lower ratios will help a bit, but I'm afraid the higher cruise gear will hurt a little.

My thoughts were to swap out the tranny and transfer cases together since both sets are already bolted together. I dont plan to go inside for overhauling, i would just wait on that until i actually need to overhaul...

thanks again ewong. i will give you dibs if i don't proceed with the swap, but i dont see why i wouldnt at this point. i am hoping that the slightly lower gearing will compensate for the slightly larger tire that i will be using for the next several years - ie, hoping that i wont *need* to go into the diff gears for several years. the stock ratio works well for me now, and i really dont want to get too far away from it if i can help it - its a p/t dd.

I have a R151 trans with the case. I do not know the condition of the trans but the transfer case is good. I picked it up in my local u-pull-it yards. My intentions where to see if anyone locally can rebuilt the R151 but I do not think I'am going that route. I may use the R150 trans and use the turbo tcase. I'am going to buy the adapter to put a 302 Ford to a R series trans but I do not know which is stronger, the R151 or the R150.
