You solder a resistor onto the wires that come out of the EGR. One wire to one side, and one wire to other. I'm pretty sure it was a 4 ohm resistor but dont hold me to it. That is how you do it though.

It really amazes me how a board can be so two-faced about emissions equipment. Post a question about removing a catalytic converter and all hell comes down on you but then post one about by-passing/defeating the EGR system and all kinds of help comes your way. Simply put, both are required by law to be installed and in working order. Don't get me wrong, I would prefer it if the stuff wasn't there but you really can't have it both ways.

maybe in your state but in North Carolina 1992 and below aren't smogged so its NOT required by law where i am to have anything smog on my truck my cat is on but i gained 1 mpg and better acceleration out of the egr being bypassed and since im not breaking any law i say thats a good mod especially with these gas prices.

its 1996 and below. my 4runner is the last year made before emissions testing when you get it inspected. one more year newer and i would have to pay 35 dollars instead of my 9.50

We are not required to have a cat as far as i know here in MS.. I know a muffler shop wont cut it off but you can cut it off your self and they will weld a piece back in it for you..When we get inspection stickers nobody has EVER looked under a truck or car, when you drive up as long as its not LOUD , they never mention exaust..They check the lights, blinkers and cracks on windsheild and thats it.. no emissions junk to fool with either, 1 of the few good things about living in MS and its 5 dollars for a sticker

in MO they recently made 1996 the cut off as that is the year ODBII was requried.
technically if your newer you still require a check, but its done with a code scanner not a real sniff test.
they figured out the sniff tests were expensive and not acomplishing much

Makes me glad to be in WI, no smog/emissions testing required. Had a freebee check a while back on my 70 Chevelle (stealership testing out their new SUN diagnostic machine). 454,4bl carb, headers, Thrush mufflers straight to the headers, no ECU, no EGR,no CAT's, no air pump and the only vacume line is for the DP distributor.Passed the 95 emissions standard
Makes you wonder doesn't it, the stealership boys were really sratching their heads.

yeah man, im pretty sure. I know I don't have to get it checked on mine. I've just always been told it was 96 and below.
